If I had to guess, I don't think that is terribly far from the truth.Just throwing crap at the wall here, but maybe his work with the D for the bowl game was an audition or part of the interview process for a larger role in coaching here, and when that didn't result in him getting an expanded gig, he was out.
Shit wish the same could be said about Rhules part in coaching the defensive lineJust throwing crap at the wall here, but maybe his work with the D for the bowl game was an audition or part of the interview process for a larger role in coaching here, and when that didn't result in him getting an expanded gig, he was out.
Anyone who thought it was just random that the USC board guy brought up Ekeler’s name was fooling themselves.
Hawaii and New Mexico had good spec teams last year. maybe we can get a rainbow warriorI’m sure conference USA has an up and comer.
...Unless Ekeler just simply wants to leave, i dont see any rational way to spin this other than utter disaster.
If you let your best coach leave to a conference rival, you have failed. You do what it takes to keep him at all costs.

Do you think it's an either or?Fucking wild that we'd rather lose Ek and keep Rusty Dvoracek (what does he even do?) than shitcan the dead weight and let Ek handle LBs
to a certain degree - yes lol. He turned a bad unit into excellent in 1 offseason, and has done so for a long time....

Matt can just turn his hat backwards and coach ST next year...

He just signed a year ago to coach ST. Unless he was promised more, he shouldn't be expecting anything else. If he wants a raise for his ST work, great, give it to him. He earned it. If he wants more, that's his problem.Just throwing crap at the wall here, but maybe his work with the D for the bowl game was an audition or part of the interview process for a larger role in coaching here, and when that didn't result in him getting an expanded gig, he was out.

Which time.Didn't work out too well last time.....
Who is saying he was always going to leave after one year? I’m just pointing out his history. Sucks if he leavesWe’ve gone from “this report has nothing to it, don’t believe everything you read” to “well, he was always going to bail after one year.”
Losing Ekeler is a colossal failure. Full stop. Combine that with the swings and misses on DL, and it is not a great offseason for a guy whose staffing choices are already suspect at best.
