Someone please tell me why I should believe that Butler will be a good DC

I felt the defense played great. They for the most part took every away except for Nico’s legs. And most of those plays were a dlineman inches away from getting a sack. Our game plan was to shorten this game. We made UCLA milk the clock with long drives where they fought hard to move th ball. Nothing, IMO, came easy for UCLA. And they’re extra lucky Nico didn’t fumble the ball on one of those scrambles as I felt like we were going for the ball and he really doesn’t protect it all that well.

I just don’t see it.

He’s going for that John Brown look.

While it doesn't look good during the games, is he getting more out of the talent we have or is the talent looking lackluster?

This defense is definitely needing some better defensive lineman. We have hints of talent, but we really needed a true run stopping DT or two to help us out.

Our record would likely be better if we had higher IQ LBers. We have some decent ones but they have had issues with the DL getting pushed and making poor reads and angles. Bufford At safety and then rFr Rex cost us the some huge runs and long scores due to horrible fits, angles and missed tackles.

If we do as is being reported and going big in the portal with proper NIL funding and hopefully the younger classes developing the D should be much better next season.

We’ve only had one horrible game this year that was a beat in the Minnesota game. The other two losses were by 3 and 4 and if DR doesn’t get hurt we would’ve put USC away imo. Not to shabby considering the multi decade dumpster fire we’re coming out of.

This is a very underrated point. TBH I’m fine with a team having a 96 yard TD drive when we are up 21 in the second half. Kills the clock.

Serious question. Why is it too much to expect that the defense stops them on 3rd and 16 from their own two, they punt and the offense gets the short field and at worst gets a FG to go up two scores. That seems much more "complimentary" to me.

Ah so more of a JoBu problem eh
Both sides have coaches. Both sides try to disguise what they are doing and make last second changes based on what they think the other side intends to do. So, I guess that you could say it's always Butler's fault if you believe he knows with certainty what the other team will run in advance every play.
