Just ate a shit load of food, had a few drinks, and told my step dad to piss off, so I have spent the past hour hiding in the basement and drinking with my favorite cousin, who thought we should hire Mickey. We did some research on Matt Rhule and he is now just as convinced as I am that we got the right guy. We didn’t settle.

Check out these speeches below. It will be worth your time.

In a nutshell, the “values” that the so called “Tradition Coalition” want in a coach align nearly perfectly with what Rhule preaches, so it’s odd to me what the pushback is from the TC other than he’s and outsider.

Another interesting note regarding his values reflected in these speeches is that he is basically the “anti-Frost.” The same fans (myself included, admittedly), were so blinded by the facade that Frost and the media had built up that we were unable to grasp that he lacked the exact set of core values that we so badly needed and pretended he had.

1. Toughness.
2. What it means to be a man.
3. Knowing your “why?”
4. How to establish leadership
5. How to build relationships
6. How to develop winners

Frost failed miserably at every single one of these. He had us “close” based on X’s and O’s alone (10 straight losses by one score or less), but his soft skills did nothing to get us over that hump. If he combined his X’s and O’s with the core values and leadership ability of Matt Rhule, he would have had us competing for conference titles. But instead his laziness, arrogance, and compete lack of direction as far as leadership and values go held us back and drove the program even further into the ground.

Scott is still capable of being one of the better coordinators in the country. His X’s and O’s ability is actually pretty incredible. The guy was an absolute shitty leader of young men but had us on the brink of beating so many highly ranked teams over the years that I’ve lost count. But the big picture, leadership aspect was missing. He might be able to manage and motivate a position group. But he cannot manage and motivate an entire team.

I apologize for my time as a Frost apologist. I was blinded by “close,” but didn’t realize how far we really were. I always thought “damn, one more big play,” “one less missed tackle,” or “if only AM would have hung onto the damn ball,” we would be elite. After all, we played the likes of OSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, and MSU down to the wire last year. But in the end it wasn’t the missed tackle or untimely fumble or punting the wrong direction that held us back. Those things were just a symptom and a system-wide lack of culture. Our coaches taught players how to be losers, so they found ways to lose.

Here’s a few videos of Matt Rhule speaking about his core values and leadership philosophies.

He’s a good man and leader.

I think he’ll get us there if we don’t Nebraska ourselves.

Happy thanksgiving fuckers.

Good stuff.

The people that don’t like him haven’t read a damn thing about him and haven’t heard him speak. I’ve been saying if Run the Damn Ball guy knew anything about Rhule, he wouldn’t need his viagra anymore.

I think the taters will come around once he has his introductory presser. If not then, certainly when he starts winning.

Rhule being the son of a preacher, he learned how to sp to a group! He also learned leadership at a young age. His father wasn’t just a minister but he was very successful, that with the spotlight on him every day. He is a tremendous speaker and motivator who can capture an audience quickly, keep them engaged and leave them wanting more

Well played OP.

Sadly, Nebraska fans as a whole are full on potatoes…

Update from my thanksgiving with the in-laws today:

Every Husker fan (all casuals) I talked to was very “meh” on Rhule. When I asked why, I got responses ranging from “he’s a .500 coach” to “he sucked in the NFL” to “I was hoping for Urban” to “Mickey deserves one more year.”

I married into a family of fucking potatoes.

Sounds like my wife and her sister…brother in law has a Husker room but could give a shit less unless the team is winning, so he hasn’t cared for 20 years. His kids are actual potatoes…25 and 22 still live at home with dead end jobs. All I hear about the Rhule hire is meh, he’s not even cute! Is he balding? He sucked in the NFL didn’t he? I love my family but fucking mashed taters,!

The win-loss record in college is very deceiving. When you take over programs in need of a major rebuild - like Temple, Baylor and NU - you will lose some games before you start winning. True at every level. The end product is what matters, and he has turned around every program he was at. That is the critical information, not the win-loss record.

I don’t care to research. Not sure how long he was at temple or Baylor but assuming it was 3 years or more at each, can someone post his record from the final 2 years at each program?
