Turd's kid went to West Point.. Turd went to a bunch of games.

The only thing I can think of that I would like is we would have a discipline team that would maximize.. Now you get into the "can we build a staff to recruit" discussions...

FWIW I don't think he would run the flexbone. I think he would run something closer to what Bo/Beck were running.

There is something to be said about doing what he has done with the limitations they have at service academies.

I don't think he'd run the flex bone at Nebraska. I think you'd see more of a spread power/option type of offense. Maybe more like Coastal?

Jeff Monken is 61-48

The last coach to have a winning record at Army is Jim Young...he was there from 1983-1990
Bob Sutton 44-55
Todd Berry 5-36
John Mumford 0-6
Bobby Ross 9-25
Stan Brock 6-18
Rich Ellerson 20-41

That's the same Bobby Ross that won a national championship in 1990 with Georgia Tech. He took 13 years off and ended up the HC at Army for 3 seasons. That's crazy to me.

Since 1990 (arbitrary number being used) Army has had NINE seasons with a winning record. Jeff Monken accounts for 5 of those. So in 32 years he's coached 28% of Army's seasons but 56% of their winning seasons. My point being...nobody has won at Army like Jeff Monken for 30+ years. And yet he found a way. That's the case you can make.

The case against him...how is he going to recruit? It is as simple as that.

You're not hiring a resume, you're hiring a human.

Hard to project GSU/Army results to the big show, but they were both pretty weak for several years before he took over, and he made them both actually pretty good.

Eval of the behind-the-scenes stuff would be key. He may be pushing all the right buttons, but there's a limit on how fast you can make a small engine go, even if it's tuned perfectly.

He's not my guy, definite risk, but easy to make a case he's a good coach who could build something special when given the pieces.

You have to go back to WW2 time to have Army as a good football program.

Also....

The only thing selling points I can think of is that he has given Army arguably it's best college football runs it's seen in the modern era. Jim Young's record from 83-90 is the only thing that comes close. Better winning percentage than Monken by a hair, but Monken has taken them to more bowl games and gotten beyond Young's 9 win ceiling. And that's at an institution that can't recruit like a normal football team for better or for worse.

There's also the disciplinarian aspect, which would be good.

But if we're talking about a G5 darling ready for the big stage, then get #2ndChoice.

If it's Jeff M, the only way it raises the needle for me is if he hires a stellar staff to join him and we start seeing news about a well organized recruiting operation that starts attracting some talent to be excited over. And the transfer portal better be well utilized. That would keep me excited going into next season. Otherwise, bleh.

I know a fair bit about service academies, specifically Navy.

The biggest issues are always:

-Overall team speed

-The whole serve in the military bit which isn’t for everyone

-OL/DL. At all service academies you have to meet strict weight requirements. Football players get a special waiver but as soon as they are done playing they have to lose that extra weight as quickly as possible. Crash dieting is how it is done and from what I have heard it suuuuuuucks.

If you’re Turd though, how would you sell that to the fans & boosters? The ones who are keeping that streak alive and paying for the new facility and likely south stadium.

If it got too far, could it be a situation where Tennessee was about to hire Schiano and boosters backed the AD up to rethink it?

Conspiracy Theory - Machiavellian Turd

1. Turd wants Urban or Rhule
2. Knows the Holier than Thou crowd wont like Urban, so focuses on Rhule
3. Floats Monken as backup to put fear into hearts of fans
4. Rhule falls through
5. Turd offers Boosters dilemma, if you guys want to go back to the old days and run the option, I got Monken right here for you
6. Boosters suddenly dont have holier than though attitude and write 15 million check to Urban

Thats how the fanfiction plays out in my head at least. Monken after an 3 month search just cant be real.

You could argue he gets more out of nothing.

His players are not good-tier football recruits, but athletic future Army officers who can play football.
He would have to get more out of nothing at Nebraska as well. Top recruits aren't coming here for that offense.

Doubtful on the last bit. Nebraska fans will rally and convince themselves Monken will win a conference championship in year 3 because the team will be so tough and disciplined.
