SEC Bows to the B1G - 9 Conference Games

The change in schedule strength calculations a few days ago was designed to force the SEC's hand. The formula change would have screwed them if they stayed at 8 conference games. Going to 9 doesn't give them an advantage under the new rule because everyone will factor that in when they schedule. The SOS rule levelled the playing field.
Yeah, but they are going to 9 plus 1 from ACC, B1G, or B12. In 2030 UGA will play 9 conference games, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and the Ohio State.
As far as forcing hand, maybe. Everything I'm reading was that SEC offices were waiting for SOS to be added in and was a condition of going to 9.

Everyone will have to do something similar regardless of whether it is required by rule unless they want to miss the playoffs.
Yeah. Earlier in the year Sankey said he favored the 9 conference game schedule, but not at expense ofteams missing playoffs because there would be more losses. Enter SOS. What should worry everyone was that he also added he wanted 4+ auto bids. Don't trust either commish SEC or B1G. Also, this move seems to just be another step toward @HerbRedman 's discussion of a much larger playoff. I hate auto bids, conference champs auto bids, and going more than 12 teams in CFBP.

Later in year Sankey went down on some dudes during an Atlanta Braves game.

I used to hate the idea of an expanded playoffs, being somewhat of a traditionalist (I used to enjoy the fact that fans could debate who the NC was during the offseason) but I have come around. I now think it will be as entertaining as hell. And you are right, with a long tough schedule almost everyone will lose a game because they are tired or beat up, which will make it even harder to keep the numbers small (In the NFL only one team has gone undefeated in the regular season since 1972). They'll be a lot of great games, though, as teams really can't afford to play more than one patsy anymore. This will make the SOS measures even better as there will be a lot more meaningful non-conference games against other contenders - more and better data.

(My earlier point was simply that it was easy to say "we'll be willing to go to 9 if the SOS rule changes" when the SOS rule change means 8 conference games would be hurting you).

I think I have finally accepted that the best way to determine a national champion in college football is the way that is the most entertaining.

If I was rich I would bet as much money as I could that doesn’t end up being there non con schedule by the time 2030 rolls around.

Me too. Might be UGA that backs out this time, but going back to Richt teams keep canceling on Dawgs, and league office canceled 2. tOSU backed out of a series when Urban took over. I was looking forward to the matchup, and hopefully that schedule doesn't change.
