I agree the ref started running and waving his arms but post-game highlights claims he never blew the whistle.

It wasn't about the whistle. Ref said he blew the whistle after he stretched his arms. In replay they decided his forward progress was stopped. Can't say I've ever seen that done in a replay.

Yeah very strange. Forward progress was originally initiated for player safety, right? No reason to stop forward progress there. Let the players decide.

You can't change the rules. If its stopped its stopped. Rule is also so there's no rugby scrums too.

The other player safety issue that makes me feel like an old man but I’m gonna complain anyways…the new fad of mouthpieces just hanging from the face mask the entire game. Put it in your fucking mouth or just don’t have one at all. But it’s there for concussion safety and so you don’t bite thru your tongue.
