How much time does the new coach get:

To get to 6 wins?

To get to 9 wins?

Isn't there some weird exception the NCAA allows for the next two years to basically sign unlimited guys to get to 85? I thought I heard that on the radio the other day. You get a guy like Urbz, flip the whole damn roster damn near.

If not, if you get a competent coach, I mean shit, Leipold has got KU to 3 wins in year two, I don't think it's out of the question to get to 6 wins and bowl eligibility by year 2 or 3, 9 wins by year 4 or 5. I just think back to the complete incompetence of the last several years, anyone worth their salt should help turn this around quicker than what most people would think.

The key obviously will be how can you fill out the roster with quality OL/DL guys.

I think it's a lot of factors to determine on number of wins.

For example, let's say our new HC brings in their staff. We'll go through every single coach and look at every stop they made, who they coached, the progress of their stats, and their recruiting skills.

Then we'll look at our roster and see who has left and who has come in. We'll see how we did this year in every facet for every player.

Then looking at the new (or existing) staff, we'll cross reference the talent on the roster, years of experience, and the coaching staff that is working with them.

For the big step, the coached talent will be adjusted according to strength of schedule. From that, we'll know if six wins in the first season is expected. And then when to expect nine wins. And so forth.

You should be able to see progress in three years. With NIL and the portal you should get to 6-wins by year 2 and 9-wins by year 3 or 4.

Recent success doesn't change any of that in my mind. The fact is we've had shit coaches since Pelini. Maybe we should stop hiring them.

that's a big BINGO. i pray to the lord our god that the new HC 1) recognizes the requirement of high level OL/DL pay in the B1G and 2) is capable of building a roster chalked full of elite OL's and DL's.
The one thing I'm intrigued by Leipold is how they've won these games with their roster, knowing the talent level on their OL. For them to play at a serviceable level is pretty incredible.

I like Scott Fuchs. He has a nice solid resume and results.

I know the OL and DL sucks ass, but how much is that due to incompetent coaching and development?
When shit like this happens

And then shit like this

I have a hard time not saying coaching and development. You know OU runs an odd front. Your protections have to reflect that, and they failed terrible at this. They had several instances of running what looks to be half-slide the wrong way, or not checking to a better protection vs the front presented.

I heard some stuff on the radio last night on the drive home about "attitude reflects leadership" Yes, to an extent. But at some point in this whole process, if you can't get your guys in the right positions to succeed, or give them the tools to exceed, I don't care how talented they are, they are going to lose confidence and fail. And I think that has been a larger part of the problem in recent years. I mean for fucks sake, the second clip is a straight B gap run through. That can not happen...especially at the D1 Level, let alone more than once in a game.

I will be curious to see how the new coach is accepted. When Callahan and Riley came to town as perceived outsiders, the mob was just waiting to shitcan them at the first chance.

Then Scrote comes to town and literally fields the worst NU teams since Jennings and for some reason many were ok with that and kept giving him more and more rope.

The new guy should be able to damn near make a bowl game in year 1 with a couple OL/DL portal guys. Continue that in year 2 with 6-8 wins and then by year 3 compete for the West title.

However, year 2 is when USC/UCLA join the fray. How does that change the divisions? L. Riley could have a really stellar team at that point and I am not sure how competitive NU will be at that point which could push the rebuild out further.

Taking a quick spin through the KU starting OL, 2 transfers from Buffalo, 1 transfer from D2 Central MO, a 2* 6th year Sr, and a low 3* RS SO. Somehow they're playing at a much higher level than our OL that at the beginning of the year consisted of a near-5*'s at LT, LG, and RT, 3* RG, and an awful walk on C.

You should see discernable progress by year 2, and we should be very competitive in the West by year 3. To me the biggest red flag/warning sign of Frost's tenure was how we were worse in year 2 than the last 1/2 of year 1.
This. I'd say 6+ wins year one.

Competitive in West by year 3.

If not.

Pronounced "Fukes" I believe. At least the 2 kids I went to school with pronounced it like that.

But his o-line does fuck so maybe he goes by that.

That mob has been humble though now that Scott Frost failed worse than Callahan and Riley.

I agree that the O line and D line have to be priority 1 and 2...although QB always has to be up there.

Just need to understand that developing an O line/D line and the depth it takes time. The transfer portal is a good tool, but really good O line/D line are the hardest transfers to get. 1) They don't transfer as much 2) everybody needs them.
