Isn’t it a little odd and crazy how one of Michael Jordan’s greatest games ever played was his “flu game”. No one cares or even thinks about how he was sick and could’ve “infected” every other player on the court. Just think how gutty and amazing of a performance it was.

Now today, someone tests positive for COVID and the entire game is put in jeopardy. NHL has had shutdowns, other leagues have games get postponed or forfeited.

I realize the two aren’t apples to apples, but it is still a little strange how one is celebrated and the other we take every over the top precaution necessary.

Regardless if he had the brown bottle flu (99.9%) chance or he was ill with the actual flu the point remains. It was publicized he had the flu and was heralded as being brave and tough. If someone had covid and played a really good game today the general consensus would be hostile towards him risking other peoples lives.

I think it would be a good thing if there were a societal shift toward accepting "stay at home if you're sick and possibly contagious." I hope employers allow for it, covid, cold, influenza, or whatever. It would be tough for employers of "essential workers" to figure out, and I understand and have no solutions for that issue.

All that said, I used to get bored with school so I would "pretend sick" watch "The Price is Right" and whatever else as a kid.

Wouldn't we all be better off if contagious people could stay away from the rest of us for a little while without fear of losing their jobs?

I so wanted to put a bunch of common misspellings and grammatical errors in this post (loosing their jobs, etc). I decided against it and put this really lame last paragraph here, but I'm one that appreciates paragraphs, spelling, and a minimum of punctuation. I'm anti @jbt25.

Hopefully @Elizabeth Reed won't have too much to correct, but it is late and I should be sleeping.

I'm not the one saying the flu game was awesome. I was never a Jordan fan. Reapect what he did playing basketball but hated the guy's personality on and off the court.

I'm pointing out that regardless that it wasn't the flu that was the public message. So opee's point is still valid.

If the public message was that he was hung over it would still be talked about. Just more in a joking manner.

Never bet against a Drunk Jordan. I lived in Chicago for over 3 years and helped run a famous Italian Restaurant on Rush Street called Carmine's, yes there were Mob Ties and it got a tad bit scary at times. Also had ties to the cops, basically local cops said they would get me out of any trouble. I had phone numbers I could call, wink wink.

Well one of my Cop buddies had the honor of hanging out in The Gold Coast to watch an illegal private Casino. One of the most expensive neighborhoods in Chicago and there was a brownstone that was an illegal casino with a small bar and restaurant. Basically the Mayor made sure there was a Cop car on the street in front with 2 cops at all times. Purpose being is important people went to gamble there and he wanted to make sure they felt safe. Yeah, the Casino was greasing people. Jordan was there quite a bit and a notorious gambler. Not just Jordan but other dignitaries were regulars there, and it was open 24/7.

So my cop buddies show up to relieve the other squad car and the cops tell them that Jordan went in Saturday night and hadn't come out yet. Well about 11am Sunday morning he comes out staggering, like could barely walk he was so drunk. Had been in there for over 12 hours. So the cops watch him struggle to walk to his car and he gets in. Obviously in no condition to drive, let alone play in a game that they had in less than 4 hours. Yes he had a Sunday Prime Time afternoon game in less than 4 hours.

So being the good Chicago cops that they are they did what any outstanding public servant would do. Arrest him and prevent him from driving? Nope they immediately called their Bookie. Placed bets against the Bulls as Jordan was a wreck, no way they thought he could even play. Bottom line is Jordan had a monster game, not sure how but he scored over 50 and the Bulls won. So it was a running joke with the Chicago Police Department that "You Never Bet Against A Drunk Jordan". Jordan is not human, no way he could go from stumbling drunk to schooling another NBA team in under 4 hours.

You have never had a stomach virus where it was a 24 hour thing of shitting and or puking? I have plenty of times. It doesn’t usually persist two days. That’s why I would rather have the stomach virus than a shitty cold which can take a week or two to get over.

Yeah, @SarasotaHusker is a definite character. I didn't make shit working helping run Carmine's. Literally paid me like $50,000/year and we worked about 80 hours a week. But we had fun. All kinds of celebs and athletes came through there. Got to know a bunch of them really well. Also got hooked up with things around Chicago, including the Cops. We let the Cops dine for free so if I ever needed anything they reciprocated.

I am dreading reading through work contracts so I will procrastinate and share another Chicago Cop story. So the Gold COast area is big money and lots of tourists. Chicago wanted visitors to feel safe so they saturated the area with Cops, lots of foot patrol. Crime was minimal so basically they just talked to people and answered questions, almost like greeters. 2 of the Cops, Pete Kelly and Jason Branstander (sp?) were security guards on stage for Jerry Springer.

After Steve Wilko left the Springer show Pete Kelly became the main security guy on stage. Big good looking dude with an Arm Sleeve Tattoo. Jason and Pete both had boxing background and Pete was actually the Chicago PD/Fire Department Boxing Champion. They had competitions. Well next door to us was a nightclub, can't remember what name it had at that time. A Limo was parked in front and Jason & Pete told the driver he couldn't park there because it was a fire lane. Bears Defensive Tackle Tank Johnson comes out and starts giving them shit because he had rented the Limo. Well it gets heated and Tank takes a swing at Pete. Big mistake. Pete ducked the punch and returned a brutal right hook that knocked Tank out. Down goes Frazier, Tank crumpled. They cuffed Tank and he was taken in.

Rumor has it a couple days later Pete not only has a new Corvette but no charges were filed against Tank. NFL had some form of policy that after so many Strikes or arrests you were suspended. This would have been his 2nd or 3rd strike and he would have missed most of the season. So Pete gets a Corvette and Tank doesn't miss the season. Thats how things work in Chicago. Pete started doing parts in small movies and a couple years ago retired to Hawaii with his Cop Pension and other trinkets.

I thought I had crazy stories and life experiences but those 2 had all kinds of wild stories from working on Springer. Insane to hear the stuff that would go on not only on stage but back stage. And stuff they couldn't show on TV. I went to the show a couple times, wild to watch it in person.
