Alberts: "We're also not trying to win the press conference." He said they were far more focused on action and not talking.

***Alberts starts by saying, "it's been a tough day today" for him, Frost, the players, and the program. "This was a day that I hoped would never come."

***Alberts said everyone wanted Frost to work at Nebraska, "and it's unfortunate and sad that we're here today."

***Frost said NU "owed it to our players and to our fans" to try to be as competitive as possible with Mickey Joseph as the interim head coach.

***Alberts went back to the need for accountability in this position.

***Alberts said he met with Frost this morning, and they had a very professional meeting about the decision. They both went and met with the team, and Alberts thanked Frost in front of the team and gave Frost time to speak with the players alone.

Then Joseph met with the team and he talked about how he would handle the rest of the season. Joseph is the head coach, and "I think there will be some changes" that Joseph will explain at a later time.

***Alberts said it would be a national search, and they would engage in some third-party assistance in the process. He said there would likely be a lot of rumors that surface during this search, and he plans on reaching out to a lot of people. That doesn't mean he offered all of them the job.

***Alberts said he's going to "do everything we possibly can, like we did for Scott, to support Mickey Joseph" and the players through the rest of this season.

***Alberts said the decision to let Frost go now instead of waiting until Oct. 1 was that "we owed it to the players" to make a move now. "We needed to do something. We needed to inject something into this team to get some confidence."

***Alberts said there was no negotiated settlement on Frost's buyout, and Frost would be paid out his contract in full.

***Alberts said after last night's game was the final factor in his decision to move on from Frost, though he'd been concerned with how things had been going since the first game.

***Alberts said he and Nebraska's AD were in full support of Frost until the end. While there might be some coaches that he's interested in, nothing had been done yet in finding a replacement.

***Alberts said it would be a national search, but Joseph would have a chance depending on how the rest of this season went. He wants to see the Huskers continue to compete and progress and make the fans proud. "I think we can get there. We'll stop talking about championships and talking about things we used to do..."

***Alberts said the top qualities he's looking for in a new coach were character, culture builders, grinders, people managers. "A lot of the great ones don't have a lot of hobbies. It's all they know." He also wants someone who was an authentic leader who could handle all that comes with today's era of college football. "I like people that hate to lose."

***Alberts said he was "well aware of how the market has shifted" with coaching salaries, and "certainly resources won't be an impediment" in finding their next coach.

***Alberts said Joseph was chosen as the interim because he was an energetic coach who had an "infectious personality" and had quality experience. "There will be some immediate and specific changes to our approach" with him at the helm for the rest of the season.

***Alberts said he wanted a coach that had "servant leadership" who was always doing what was best for the players and program.

***Alberts said he didn't know why it didn't work with Frost. If he did, "we would have made some changes" much sooner. "Scott made decisions that he felt were in the best interest of the University of Nebraska."

***Alberts said there were some benefits with the timing of this decision because it will allow Nebraska time to do their due diligence in this hire. "We're going to take as long as it takes to find the right leader." There were some points on the calendar, such as the early signing period, but those wouldn't dictate when they made their hire.

***Alberts: "We're also not trying to win the press conference." He said they were far more focused on action and not talking.

***Alberts said Mark Whipple would still call the plays this season. On Joseph, Alberts said: "We need a different voice." He said Joseph's energy and enthusiasm would be critical at this point.

***Alberts said Frost was the only staff member let go today but left the door open for Joseph to make additional changes going forward.

Is this the guy from Rivals? If so, he didn't ask a single question...
