Positives:
Ceyair Wright - seems to be a stud.
Ty Robinson - best player on the team and had a great year
Gunnar Gottula - young but showed promise
EJ - last two games showed he should be the feature back
Barney - Hold on to him at all costs, he’s a gamer

Negatives:
Neyor and Banks - lots of hype, little production
Fidone - loves the team but body let’s him down and his effort blocking is poor
Gifford - Bye, lots of heart but worst safety I can remember
Lendhart - thought he was in for a big year, don’t remember his name called once all year
Princewill - better than cam above but still I expected more

It is worth mentioning that Dylan was good. He wasn’t insane but the flashes are there. Lots and lots of growing pains this year but it should pay off the next two while we still have him here. As he becomes more comfortable with Dana and vice versa I really think we will see him flourish next year. We had a ton of underneath guys open tonight and we just never seemed to be a me to get them the football. I think that will be a major feature next year - ball out somewhat quickly so the guys we (hopefully) pay to bring in can go to work

I also want to give a shout out to a few random players…

Congrats to Gabe Ervin Jr for staying healthy the entire season. He’s been through hell and high water during his career here and even prior injury wise, nice to see him make it through the entirety of a season and even score a couple of TDs in some early season blowouts

Riley Van Poppel- the fact that he agreed to redshirt and they actually stuck with the plan is going to pay wonders for us down the line. Imagine if Nash had redshirted and had another year left? Similar situation here

Elijah Jeudy- out of NOWHERE started playing good ball in a pretty good amount of snaps this year as a backup to Ty. I think he’s in line to start next year which is saying something because at the start of the year I thought he was a major portal candiate

Ben Scott- we never had to call his name for bad snaps or poor play. Guy just did his damn job. He will be missed.

I think overall you have to like the outlook for the offense in general. Holgerson is a massive upgrade. Give him a full offseason with Dylan, EJ and Barney and that'll be a hell of a group. I like the young WRs potential yet, but wouldn't mind adding a veteran presence in the portal. Having Evans, Gottula, and Luto returning on the line is a solid core too.

As disappointing as Neyor and Banks were i don’t think Nebraska could have done much better in the portal.
Top 10 WRs in the portal last year had incredibly meh seasons.
The portal is too wildly inconsistent on talent and most have a solid reason why they are in the portal. Throw everything at Michael Terry and maybe grab 1 portal you.

You make a good point. People need to remember rarely are these portal guys leaving because they're too good for their teams. I think in an ideal world, you look for serviceable guys that can provide leadership the high school guys but keep working the high school recruiting circuit for your real studs.

That an incredible way to spin “congratulations” to a guy for never playing. 😂

I think the critical thing with the portal is we can’t be reliant on people willingly entering in order to get good players. We need to use our recruiting connections to poach guys who we KNOW can play.

You use a Mozzee to backdoor to Nwaneri, a Holgerson to poach a few guys he had recruited to UH, a Barthel to grab Cam Edwards from UConn, etc. Those are all guys that have no real “reason” to enter the portal other than we’re going to give them a fucking bag to come here. Thats how we should be operating, not waiting to see who enters and being like “golly gee I hope this guy can play!”

I agree with this. Deion is the exception to this rule based on who he is. Players, especially skill players will be drawn to wanting to play for him. Comparing almost any team that’s avg to him isn’t fair.

Indianus will be an interesting team to watch next year since a lot of those JMU guys he brought graduate. He successfully used his connections but what’s step 2

This is a great point. The portal can patch some holes but you can’t expect to build a team around it

give me bigger bodied FCS or Group of 5 stud wr’s to come in. less texas, wake, etc type transfers.
This. Gimme guys who are willing to die for a chance to catch the football, instead of guys who just had a breakout season at major school and want a pay check or "one last chance at new scenery" or just "looking for a new situation"

Special teams. They lost the game for us in the end.
Receivers. Make a play when it matters.
Raiola can’t hit on a deep ball even though I think Raiola was solid.

For every Trey Palmer there’s going to be at least 5 if not more Neyor’s
