Portal Priorities

People are going to be disappointed if you have expectations of us going strong in the portal. We will go after a handful of guys but a total overhaul is not Rhule’s thing. I also think there is zero evidence that method works with exception of Cignetti bringing his former team with him from James Madison. Lane couldn’t buy his way to a playoff spot in what was the worst SEC conference in sometime.

8-10 is not an overhaul and is what I would expect given Rhule’s tenure here so far. I believe in year one he brought in 13-14 and this year he brought in 8-9. I would expect him to continue to do the same.

I feel like they have all the parts of a solid to actually pretty good D coming back. Of course you'd take any luxury player who is better than what we have, but I feel like they don't have the same urgency on that side of the ball.

Offense is obvious with skill position reinforcements and interior OL if you can get it (I don't think they'll be competitive for the types of tackles they'd need).

Long snapper is probably priority 1.1 though

Got a ton of holes to fill and positions that need upgraded.

1) LS - desperately need a competent LS.
2) DT/NT - we did a good job controlling the LOS this year but won't be able to next year without an impact transfer to replace either Ty or Nash.
3) CB - our DBs fucking suck.
4) WR - JB is nice and we've got some decent youngins committed, but we desperately need an experienced #1.
5) OL - need a starting caliber OL (C or OT preferred)
6) RB - EJ is alright, but no guarantee he sticks around. Depth is garbage and Barthel is a shit recruiter.
7) TE - our TE room is bad and don't think Fidone will be back.
8) S - our DBs fucking suck.

If DR xfers, a QB becomes priority #1.

Maybe we have, but don’t remember any visiting over the season. then again, I don’t follow recruiting like I use to either.

Well, if that’s the case, Rhule is not serious about fixing issues.

I remembered when we ridiculed Riley for getting a scholarship LS and his philosophy was how fast they can get the snap back and etc. From what i can remember, we didn’t have any snapping issues with that kid.

This is really the first time I can remember that the snaps have been the issue. I'm somewhat perplexed as to how a walk on long snapper makes a major conference roster if he can't actually long snap, but Nebraska football post 2014-ish has been a wild ride of new and innovative ways to lose

Okay…assuming 15 is the number, what are your predictions/hopes for what we take with the last 4 transfer spots? For me it’s:

1) OT - Fa’amoe 🤞🏻🤞🏻
2) C - it will be interesting to see if we decide to go with another OT or a C with our second portal OL. I’d prefer C bc Sledge is more of an unknown than GG at this point.
3) LB - Love to get Lathan from WVU N.
4) RB - I view this last spot as a bit of a “best player available” spot. Personally, I like we have at DL better than what we have behind EJ at the RB position. If we can procure a stud RB I think we go for it.

It's a good list. I guess there was some sort of update today about Fa'amoe but it's behind a rivals pay wall. Also, supposedly had verified 2 visitors for next week already (assuming one of them may be Latham).

I think 4 is probably another OL if they take 15. I could see a 2nd LB depending on where they slot mccollough though

2. Backup Jack/OLB so that Merritt can redshirt.

3. Backup OT. I don’t think Brix will be ready next year, and it’s important for us to upgrade from Seagram as the backup when one of the starters goes down.

4. Backup ILB.

5. Backup RB but this is only if the Ives talk was pure confidence building and not legit. I’d rather give our RB’s run, but we are missing a bigger back on the roster, now.

6. I’ve downgraded the need for a C given the group of Corc / JE / Luto with Sledge and Macie in the rotation. But, if we can find a real deal Center (not a so-so center like Guidice was) that upgrades what Evans can do, allowing for Corc to slot in on RG and/or be a multi-position lineman for us, then we take it. Our IOL is pretty young and talented, though.


If Bretz actually isn’t returning, then a S probably gets slotted in there at 2 or 3.
