Nebrasketball 2025 Portal Szn + Roster Ins/Outs

Crazy how all these smaller programs have better PG play than us, and more serviceable big men than Meah without NIL.

Spend the time to find the players. Basketball has quality players all over the place, across all conference & even divisions, to form a team to compete in the top half of the B1G.

- Fred was paid $4,000,000 for last season (reduced salary by Alberts to $3.5M then received a $500K bonus in March).
- Fred was paid $4,250,000 for this season.
- Fred will make $100,000 more each season after this thru the 2028-2029 season.

$4,250,000 puts him at #3 (Izzo, Underwood are 1-2) in the B1G head coach salary race, based on 2023-2024 reporting. USA Today usually updates it around this time of year so hopefully they did it again in the next week or two. Maybe the update will drop his ranking, we'll find out soon enough.

I'm just going to say it. Fred's offense sucks. Yes, he'll draw up a play or two during a game but overall, we ended this season no different than a Miles offense. Dance around the perimeter, and watch 1 guy go to work. And Loesner's defense has been exposed, with no counter to what teams did to us.

I fully expect Fred to be back for another season. And I couldn't care less, either way. For me, if he returns it's an NCAA tournament or bust for Fred in 2025-2026. He created his own roster problem & is responsible for fixing it, so spare me "we lost too much to overcome". We're paying him premium money.

I am having a hard time understanding how the roster this year was the best Fred could parlay his co-B1G coach of the year into. Not sure what the issue is but seems like the staff can’t attract anyone. Maybe it’s NU too. Who knows.

What’s the whole article say?

Keep Fred. Too much to get rid of him. Use those funds in revenue sharing and NIL.

Izzo says McCaffrey doesn't have NIL support. (Irrelevant)

UNL budget issues. (Irrelevant)

Elite talent is more than $1M per season. (Hepburn is proof he's FOS)

NU spent between $2M & $3M, not enough. (More bullshit)

It'll take $7M to $10, will NU spend that? (JFC, Shitel)

He said firing Fred is the lazy way out. Beautiful statement coming from perhaps the laziest journalist in this state.

So I was looking up pictures of Shatel for emphasis, and happened across this one he posted on X with his 3 daughters, and lost my train of thought.

I’m okay with keeping him. I think he takes a step forward next year

An underrated portion of Keisei’s game was his ability to cut to the rim and finish around big men. It’s funny because when you look at his dad being 9ft tall you understand that he probably spent many a practices shooting around the rim around his dad and start to see why.

If Connor can start to be a threat to do similar it should allow him to get open for his shot from 3 easier. Too many times we tried to run a set for him and for one reason or another he just couldn’t get open.

While it's not an exact comparison, people need to remember the Keisei wasnt the Keisei we loved his first year. He came in with hype from that shooting video and then was very average. Then suddenly his game evolved and he exploded. Not too dissimilar from Essegian, although Essegian ended up with comparable numbers from deep to Keiseis better years. Let's hope he can add another dimension and consistency to his game. He could be our primary scorer if he does.

Guys like Keisei and Gary need to be the model of what we do. Multi-year transfer guys who get better each year.

You should be able to project improvement from Berke if this holds true.

Gotta find a big man that can see it first. Walker averaged 3.9 apg & Mast averaged 2.79 apg. This year, Morgan & Meah was half of what Mast had.

Heck, Berke averaged a hair more than Allick. 1.48 v 1.33. Brutal considering how often Berke had the ball in his hands.
