If you like investigative true crime stuff, you have to check out "Your Own Backyard," a podcast about an unsolved dissapearance of a college student in 1996. And unlike a lot of true crime podcasts that just summarize the facts and end with "Hopefully someday they'll catch the bad guy," this guy puts his boots on the ground and becomes an investigator himself and there is actually resolution at the end.I have just finished a podcast and looking for new ones. Usually fall into the true crime(investigative) and history podcast but open to anything as long as it's good storytelling and the host's voice sounds engaging haha.
History: as has been mentioned, Hardcore History. Very long episodes, but listening to his "Blueprint for Armageddon" series made me understand World War I really for the first time and why it was almost inevitible. (Looks like this series is no longer free and is $2.99 per episode. Six episodes 3-5 hours each). Supernova in the East is still free. Gives a good look at the buildup to World War II well before the U.S. joined and what Japan was doing in the decade or so before then. Dan Carlin has a very engaging voice and is a great storyteller!
