Playoff Games Thread

I’m okay going to 24. I would rather watch playoff games than bowl games. I use to be against it but it isn’t that bad when everyone has something to play for.
Something bigger for sure. Bowl games are a joke. With opt outs they are a good scrimmage for next years team.

Because the CFP is all inclusive

Would be dumb to just tell half the sport they have no chance to play on the big stage
What size of playoff do you prefer? Either way we are going to a 16 team playoff for sure. The bowl games will be obsolete with the current structure at some point.

I’m fine with G5 team(s) being in 🤷🏻‍♂️
I'm think I'm fine with it most of the time, too.

The reason G5 gets a reseved spot is because we've had several years when you have an undefeated G5 team like Bosie State or Coastal Carolina or (whispers: UCF) who hammered everyone on their schedule, and perhaps a P4 team or two. I'm fine with a team that has passed every test so far getting a shot to prove it against the big boys. Who knows? Maybe they are good enough to hang. We have no evidence that they can't.

But when your G5 rep is a Tulane who lost a P4 game by 35 as well as losing to Texas-San Antoinio by 22, or if you lost to the 8th place ACC team by two touchdowns (as JMU did)... I'm no longer curious to see if you can hang with the big dogs since that question was pretty much answered during the regular season. I'm fine with G5 being excluded then.

Of course, you can't make it policy that an G5 team has to be undeafeted to qualify for the playoffs because that would incentivize weak scheduling. So I guess I'm getting back to being OK wiith one team, the highest ranked G5, quaifying. (Though if there are no G5 teams ranked, you're out.)

Of course, the real source of the problem is the ACC tiebreaker that allowed a 5-loss team to win their conference and opened the door to a second G5 qualifier this year.

I heard the same thing about a 12 team playoff and it didn’t.
... but it kind of did? Alabama said every game was a playoff elimination game once they opened with a loss to a shitty Florida State team. But then they lost two more games and still got in.

It never took away from the Auburn game.

If your main argument is that a big playoff does not devalue rivalry games, then I would agree with that. Rivalrly games do not have to have national championship implications to be big games. They are big games because they are against your hated rival.

But IMO, a big playoff field absolutely devaules the regular season.

Not if you look at what Jim wrote.

Would you rather see Cockeye play Vandy in a meaningless bowl or playoff game?
Did you just ask a Husker board if we'd rather see Cockeye in the playoff or not?

Meaningless bowl 100 of 100 times.

I’m so bored with this Ole Miss v Tulane game that I’m starting to rank the fuckability of the women who appear in the various commercials.
Wait... you don't normally do that?
