Official tPB ice fishing thread

Fishing is hit or miss here in SD. I got all my shit set up today in high winds, and had to tie my shack to my 4 wheeler. Then when I started drilling holes I fried my drill! Took down and went to town to get some Pho! I finished a 160 hour fast today! That Vietnamese food tasted like it was made in heaven!

My son and I spent last Saturday and Sunday fishing around the Lake Thompson area in South Dakota… no fish. We marked a few on the Vexilar, but didn’t land any.

Anyone here use a live scope?

If you’ve got some spots in eastern Nebraska that hold a good enough walleye population you can vertical jig spill the fucking beans Jim
What I'm annoyed with is if I'm using forward i can't go more than 30-40 feet without so much interference. Vertical is no problem i can get it pretty clear and don't need more than a 20 foot radius.

I put it on its own battery which definitely helped but it's still not great.

I’ve used it quite a bit but stick with my Marcum for a few reasons. Have questions?
Just curious if they are worth the price tag. Since the Nebraska ice fishing season is short, hard to justify.

What reasons do you use your Marcum vs. the Livescope?

Oh yeah. Actually had a good example of the power of livescope last year.

Tough day, a few perch on the ice and we’re at the spot we slammed walleye the day before and just not seeing shit, 24 FOW.

About 45 minutes go by, still no walleye on the ice, buddy turns the handle to look around on the livescope and sees a pod of 3 fish moving through about 30 feet away suspended at 6 feet. 10 seconds later another 4 fish go by at the same depth.

We go over, pop a few holes and within 15 minutes we all have our limits on walleye. We would have gotten skunked if we only had our flashers

I stick with the marcum because

1. I can tell bottom compositions better on the flasher which is why I’m really good at perch in South Dakota.

2. I have a really small, compact, light setup that makes it easy to move hole to hole and panoptix would add more weight and it burns through batteries faster.

3. I’ve spent so much time making fun of how much my fishing buddy spent on his panoptix and still catching more fish than him I can’t fold now.

They’re worth it for sure, they are game changers and once you get some time with one you’ll for sure just spend the money. I’m just stubborn on technology

Trying to bring some interesting conversation ITT.

Sat in cold for 12 hours without moving. Caught some giant 8" bluegill and perch. They didn't fight at all because they're so cold they can barely swim. They sure taste good after I cleaned and cooked 87 of them.

There’s not much that beats a hot walleye bite through the ice when they’re just rolling through one after the other moving and eating fast.

It’s be between that or the last 2-3 days of lake trout season when the spawn heats up for my 2 favorites.

I'd go in SD. I just dont want to buy a bunch of shit for one trip a year. Doubt I would get away more than that.

Would love flying up to northern Minn or Camada and doing a lake trout trip.

I could go on forever about how much I love lake trout. I need to go try that lake in western South Dakota or try one of the ones in Colorado with them
