Official 2025 Nebraska Cardiac Beaver Slayers Baseball Thread (7-11) - We suck again

I'm on the panic wagon. Big time. 7-11 overall and 1-5 in the B1G is a big obstacle to overcome...

The USC series is a must win, or this season is all but over (sans winning B1G conference title = automatic berth).

8 B1G conference series left = 24 games.
8 weekday weeks left = 10 games.
1 non-conference series left = 3 games.

34-19 was our regular season in 2024 & we were a lock for the NCAA tournament heading in to the B1G tournament. Whatever happened in the B1Gt was irrelevant from an advancing standpoint - we were playing for a better seed...

What's needed?
15-9 record, minimum (7-1 conference series record)
8-2 weekday record, minimum (need 1 of the 8 to be Kansas State)
2-1 non conference record (tough task with top 10 Oregon State the opponent).

That takes us to 32. IMO, that'll put us really close to the bubble as a 3 seed. Of the 7 conference series wins we will need 2 sweeps (2 additional wins) that takes us to 34 regular season wins just like last year. There will be enough hoopla surrounding us, which includes an early season win over Vanderbilt and a series win against Oregon State (3-1 v top 20 teams).

This is a disastrous start to what was expected to be a promising season.

One at bat, one out, one inning at a time.

Thru 18 games (7-11/1-5).

We are dead last hitting in the B1G, 14th (out of 17) for AVG and SLG in B1G games only, 15 (out of 17) for OPS in B1G games only & 16 (out of 17) for OB%.

Straight. Up. Brutal.

I have a hard time believing we are as bad at hitting as the stats show right now

If our bats come alive there’s always a chance
What the hell happened to the bolt offense that we had when he was our hitting coach under Erstad?

I know there's mixed feelings on Kendall...but his quote on baseball scholarships is hard to hear.
"Sources believe that almost all of the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 institutions will fund the full number of scholarships in baseball. There’s more uncertainty on where the majority of the Big Ten stands on this issue, while the Sun Belt, one of the rising power conferences in college baseball, is a league that is expected to do all it can to offer the amount needed to compete against the SEC and ACC."

This shouldn't surprise anyone. I've been telling this forum what Kendall says ever since the NCAA announced full roster scholarships.

SEC teams have been doing it since day 1 of NIL. Some ACC & a couple B12 as well.

What happened from last year?
Reminds me of Omaha Central's old field underneath the bridge by a Salvation Army. I'm drawing a blank on the name, damn it was a POS.

Spring 1990, Kimera Bartee (RIP) hit a ball so far off of me I didn't even look. It's likely still traveling 35 years later. Next AB, fucker drags and is on 3B 2 pitches later. Pretty sure I tried to pick him 10-12 times at 1st & 2nd. 😂

There had to of been 30-40 MLB scouts at that game for him. Super cool to experience. Bartee, Strickland & Scott Bream are the best players I've ever played against. Incredible talents.
Think maybe youre thinking of Lynch Park/field
