Official 2025 Nebraska Cardiac Beaver Slayers Baseball Thread - (17-20)

If we win out can we still salvage?
If we win each series and all midweek games we’d get to 30 wins

I think we’d definitely be in the Big 10 tourney and if we win that we get an automatic bid into the NCAA tourney

Or

Between 30 regular season wins and a run in the tourney we’d probably have a decent enough RPI to get into the tourney

2024, we were 34-19 in the regular season & locked in as a 2 seed regardless what happened in the B1Gt. Basically, we were playing for "what 2 seed will we be?"

I don't think 31 regular season W's gets us in this year unless we go 3-1 in the B1Gt. Then it's a prayer for a 3 seed, pending our RPI. 32 wins & there's a chance, 33 and IMO it's a lock...

- 12 conference games left
- 3 weekday games left
- 19-21 current record

32 wins = 13-2 rest of the way.
33 wins = 14-1 rest of the way.

We need a miracle to finish the regular season. I do think we can win the B1Gt as an 7 or 11 seed though.

Not much room for error.

How small the margin geez

How small the margin geez

4 games split opening weekend (-1 win)
Series loss to Lafayette (-1 win)
Frisco tournament losing record (-1 win)
Series loss to Washington (-1 win)
Series sweep to UCLA (-1 win)
Series loss to USC (-1 win)
Series loss to Ioa (-1 win)
Loss to Omaha (-1 win)

Omaha & SDSU rained out (-2 games)

We've swept nobody (1 opportunity which results in another -1)

You can't have 7 weekend series losses, sweep 0 & get into Regionals. It's damn near impossible, as we're seeing first hand. The only possibility would be to win every single weekday game, which is very difficult.

* The above is -11 wins
* +6 and we're sitting 25-16
* +8 and we're sitting 27-13

And most likely sitting as a middle of the road 2 seed right now. Comfortably.

Taking it a step further...

2021 team
* Swept 1 time (no other series loss)
* 4 weekend sweeps (including 2 4-game series)
+12 W's
** 10-3 on game 1 of weekend series (started 1-2)

2024 team
* Opening weekend losing record
* Lost 1 other weekend series
* 4 weekend sweeps
+9 or +10 W's (can't remember if any of our sweeps were 2 game series')
** 11-3 on game 1 of weekend series

Both made Regionals.

2025 team
* 2-1 in Friday games before Macs injury
* 2-5 in Friday games since (4 remaining)

Pretty hard to sweep teams without your Friday guy. And this isn't a knock on Will Walsh at all, but he's no Mason McConnaughey. 1.5 or 2 quality outings in 7 conference Friday games ain't gonna cut it.

This team is likely not to make Regionals. And it starts on Friday's.

(No, this isn't to give Bolt a pass. My record is clear on him)

Well losing sucks but…..

***Proud Dad Brag Moment - This is your chance to opt out of reading******

So my son plays 9U. He’s a very young 9U. He turned 9 on 3/25. So he missed the 8U cut off by basically 5 weeks (sorry kid. 4th of July after party and his mom was looking hot and I had hit the Busch lites HARD).

As fate would have it I got roped into helping coach. I don’t know everything and there are certainly guys on this board whose baseball knowledge puts me to shame.

But he’s left handed. He’s always wanted to pitch. All he’s done this year is throw into his net. Or beg me to play.

So tonight was his second outing. First one was okay not good. Here was his line:

1 IP
2 runs (both unearned)
5 K
1 BB
0 hits
8 batters faced (I THINK this number is right)

There was a point in the inning where the bases were loaded and each runner had been struck out and reached on a dropped 3rd strike.

Best advice I can give?
9U to 14U doesn't matter. Let him have fun and enjoy the ride as a Dad.

Wins, Stats and everything else means nothing.
