In its defense, Tater Island had us favored while still committed to them. Kstate apparently got him to walk on while being a 4 star on rivals
We haven't talked to him since the beginning of the year and he wasn't getting much interest from anyone. The four start rating was based on his sophomore year. K State basically told him they wouldn't take him now unless he went the PWO route. It was palatable because he is getting his school mostly paid for because he apparently qualifies for a Native American scholarship of some sort.
He also keeps going back and forth about whether he wants to play football or wrestle. He had told K State once already he had decided he wasn't interested because he would wrestle in college, and then he changed his mind.
He also missed all last season because of a back injury and surgery.
K State is the only school who had him in to visit in 2023. K St 247 about a week before his commitment:
With multiple offers early on in the process, some schools may have cooled on him as the process has carried on, but he says that there are two other schools besides Kansas State that are still in touch with him.
"Kansas and Pitt. Auburn and Tennessee were talking a little bit but it's been a little quieter now and that's probably where it's at for me right now," he said of the schools still recruiting him.
From the Kansas State side, there is a sense that Schunke could be someone they would take later on in the process, but as of the current moment and with the impending decision of Grant Brix, if Schunke wants to commit, it likely would not be to Kansas State. If a PWO offer was on the table for the Wildcats, the team would surely welcome him but until the scholarship numbers become more clear, Schunke would likely have to wait on committing to Kansas State.
