October recruiting thread

Also for once in his life Callahan put out an article that actually shed some light on a recruit. Going off his responses it seems pretty obvious that Demas knows he can't fuck around anymore and is beyond grateful for Nebraska even giving him an opportunity. That's probably the kind of kid that will go to war and give every single thing he has to the program because after this he knows that there are no more chances.
That's what we all thought about The Great Cape Store Burglar. I suppose you could argue that the NCAA shooting down his wavier kicked him over the edge, but lets face it he was a ticking time bomb regardless. Not saying don't take him. Just saying I don't have a lot of hope that it will work in our favor in the long run.

Nebraska offers former HS five-star and Texas A&M WR Demond Demas

Monday was an emotional night for Garden City (Kan.) C.C. wide receiver Demond Demas. The former high school five-star and Texas A&M wide receiver out of Houston has been through a lot in the last 18 months.
After being dismissed from the Aggie program in Mar. of 2022 for an assault charge, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound Demas landed at Garden City Community College.

He first crossed paths with Nebraska’s coaching staff at a satellite camp in Houston this past June. On Monday, Matt Rhule and several other coaches from NU officially offered Demas over the phone.
“I talked to all of them,” Demas said. “Coach Rhule, Garret McGuire, and six or seven coaches. I’ve been in communication with Coach Rhule a lot. I also talked with Evan Cooper.
“I’m just so thankful they made a move on me. Nobody before Nebraska would pull the trigger on me. I am very, very, very thankful for this opportunity.”

Demas’s legal situation is behind him

The significant change for Demas is the assault charge he had while at Texas A&M is now behind him.
Once he completes his probation, his previous legal situation will be closed.
“Everything fell through in my case,” Demas said. “I don’t have any legal trouble. Once I finish my probation period, things will move forward.
“They have not found me guilty of anything, and I was given probation, and I am cooperating to the fullest extent.”
The now 22-year-old Demas has been in contact with Lousiville, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, and a few other schools, but nobody has stepped forward like Nebraska.

“This means a lot to me,” Demas said.

The next step for Demas is to visit Lincoln

The tone in Demas’s voice on Monday was like he already plans to be a Husker.
The only thing holding that back is a visit. He’s never stepped foot in Nebraska and hopes to get there soon. Demas has two years to play two and will enroll wherever he goes by January.
“Nebraska loses all of their veteran receivers for the most part,” Demas said. “They want me to come in and help change the program around with them. I’ve never been to Nebraska before and look forward to seeing it soon.”
Demas currently has 23 catches for 269 yards and one touchdown for Graden City. In 14 games at Texas A&M, Demas had 15 catches for 235 yards and a touchdown.
He’s learned a lot through his experiences, and he does his best now to groom younger players at Garden City C.C.
“The things I learned from the SEC, I pass on to the younger guys here,” Demas said. “I am trying to teach them the steps to become a successful receiver.”

Jayshawn Ross may be almost gone

- Kansas State will have more than four visitors in town when they host TCU in Bill Snyder Family Stadium for a pretty anticipated night game. Much of that stems from it being a rematch of the Big 12 Championship Game a year ago in Arlington

The four official visitors are North Texas receiver commit Jacques Spradley-Demps, UTSA linebacker commit Boone Morris, Nebraska athlete commit Callen Barta and premiere Kansas City edge rusher Jayshawn Ross.

Less is known on Ross, just because he is less communicative with the media and has had a bit of an adventure of a recruitment. Obviously, it is a fantastic sign that he not only took an unofficial visit for a game earlier this season but is also attending a primetime K-State contest for an official visit. Confidence has been steadily rising just about every week.

October recruiting has sucked.

It’s 24 pages long; it would have sucked if it was less than 10.
My point is we are trending in a negative direction for:
Brix
Ross
Nelson
Barta

I’m sure shit will be fine it’s just not been very positive lately even though I’m stoked with the direction on the field.

I would hope the recruits are seeing that Rhule is gonna turn this thing around.

even without Barta, Ross and Brix we have 25 commits. We've also recently offered Richardson, Demas, Tarver and Smith III. We will likely be looking in the portal as well. I'm not sure I'd be pessimistic about this.

The largest P5 class in the country right now is 27 (Stanford, Georgia 2nd at 26)

As Rhule said yesterday, “There are some guys we’re going to wait till signing day for and battle for to the very end, and then as number crunches happen and if a guy wants to move on, we’re going to let them."

Didn't Nelson's Dad just re-affirm his commitment to Nebraska?

He is certainly being strong statements like that to the Nebraska media. But the story is always slightly different in recruiting depending what fanbase is telling the story.

This is what the On3 Notre Dame recruiting editor (Mike Singer) published yesterday:

Ainsworth (Neb.) High TE Carter Nelson: Everything I’m hearing about the Nebraska tight end commit’s visit from a few different people is very positive. He has close relationships with the Notre Dame 2024 commits and thinks very highly of the coaching staff. But the battle will rage on, and from what Nelson’s father told me last night and what I’m hearing on the ND side of things, he’s putting off any final decisions on his recruitment until after his senior season ends.

If I were him, lived in Ainsworth and was planning not to go to Nebraska, I’d probably wait right up until signing day to announce.

Sounds like he's N unless we tank the rest of the season.
