Breaking New Secondary Coach: John Butler

My concern with Cooper is that he was lauded over and over by Coach Rhule for his ability to identify hidden gems.

Yet, here we were going into last December’s signing period and again going into the summer borderline desperate to land a transfer CB.

Why is that? Lack of development? What is the ROI on the hidden gems identified by Cooper?

Jalen Lloyd is one. The LB recruit out of Stillwater unrecruited by the state schools didn’t last his first semester IIRC. Any others?
I think that is fair, 20+ players in the DB room and we had to go get 2 transfers. Not all of the recruited HS players are late bloomers, only had to fill 1 CB spot.

It seemed like he spent a lot of time hunting for and offering diamond in rough type players when there were more obvious recruits avaliable that could have been evaluated and offered instead.

He was offering 2025 4 star CBs a month ago that should have been offered and built relationships with months ago.

I don't have a problem with having developmental players but I also don't want a roster full of them either.

He was great in Letterkenny though.
