I'm assuming this is tongue in cheek.

This is a hell of a hire IMO. More legit NFL experience should be easy to sell to recruits. Plus, it seems like we may have found our replacement for when White becomes an HC.

Good luck John. Being a DB coach at Nebraska is like being a drummer for Spinal Tap
I could be 100% wrong but I think he will only be around a year or two until he can find a DC job or get back to the NFL.

As for taking over if Tony White leaves I don't know if he's the guy. He only has one year of P4 DC experience with O'Brien at Penn State.

His own high school friend McDermott didn't hire him for DC at the Bills and that's the reason he left after six seasons.

I think Rhule will end up promoting one of the younger guys to DC Dvoracek? before he promotes Butler.

Like I said probably be a good position coach for us for a year or two but I wouldn't expect too much more beyond that.

My real concern here is recruiting he hasn't been in the college game for ten years and obviously a lot has changed.

“I don’t want to wait to be a DC!” So he quits and 4 months later moves from assistant coach in nfl to assistant coach in college. What am I missing

He just got passed up as the DC in buffalo. He’s further away from becoming the DC somewhere staying at Buffalo than he is by resetting the clock somewhere else. If he’s at Buffalo he has to wait for Babich to establish himself and get a HC job somewhere which will take awhile. Alternatively if Babich doesn’t work out there is no way Butler replaces a fired Babich.

do we really want that?
Maybe? I don't know anything about him really other than he's a good DB coach, as evidenced by kicking around at a couple places in the league for a while, and that he has aspirations for more, but I'm not sure there is anything out there that suggests he isn't and/or can't be a good DC in college.

This is job where affirmative action at colleges was a good thing

And apparently no NFL teams came calling so his loss becomes our gain.

I'd be more concerned about all of that if he were being hired directly as a DC. But given that he should have at least a year to readjust, I think he'll be fine.

I probably got a little carried away there.🤣

I think it's a good assistant coach hire but I also think we need to pump the brakes a little about being the heir apparent to the DC job at this point.

I'm sure that Rhule told him that if TWhite leaves he'll have a chance at the DC job but I doubt that he made him any promises before he even coached a down at Nebraska it doesn't seem like Rhules style.
