Nebrasketball Recruiting Thread

Sharp made an interesting point on yesterday's show that he thinks Worster might be in the dog house after the Purdue debacle. Why do you think this is - his defense and his general mopiness when on the court? Because it was kind of noticeable at stretches on Sunday.

He was very lazy against Purdue on defense. Sam actually kept their Chechen in check for the most part.

Rollie logged 15 minutes in the game, which is the lowest since Indiana (18).

Good points all around.

I don't mind Ulis' energy and hustle; it is just a damn shame he doesn't have a shot outside of like 10-15 feet.
Worster can't shoot either so that's basically a wash.

You're asking if our hoops NIL can match the cream of the crop NIL programs?

No.

Is it good enough to field an NCAA team year in & year out?

Yes.
thanks. I have no idea how strong our Hoops NIL $$$ is. My booster buddies only support football NIL. I get info on the Kansas NIL Collective and they are dropping high into 6 figures for some transfers. Bill Self wants them to raise $10 million/season for the team

It’s not only money that matters. I bet if we offered twice what Kansas is offering to the same players we still wouldn’t get them.

We need to continue to have solid seasons to build a better profile to attract the next level of transfers.

We’re gonna have to hit the portal hard again next year.
It obviously depends on who decides to stick around, but I don't think it will be as bad as last year. Last year we had Brice, Gary and Hoiberg returning. This next year we will have Essegian, Berke, Hoiberg, Mast, Griffiths, Frager and Jacobsen. Now, I bet that we probably lose 2 from that group and we will have bigger shoes to fill with the void that Brice and Gary leave. But I don't see the complete roster overhaul that we saw last year. We will likely add 5 guys from the portal. I think that is going to be relatively normal going forward just based on kids leaving for various reasons and also kids not developing the way that you hoped.

The portal will be the norm for most teams, unless you have a blue blood name scripted across your chest and can afford the top 25-50 recruits.

Until we actually show consistent and positive results I’m guessing our NIL for basketball will not be truly competitive for top end recruits.
Define 'top end recruits'? Are you talking portal or incoming freshman? If you aren't landing the elite incoming freshman, IMO, it is better to build through the portal and more money-conscious to do it that way as well. Even then, look at Rutgers. They landed two of the top three NBA draft picks and will probably end up as one of Nebraska's worse losses, metrics wise.

I will say that I never thought Rutgers' roster was going to work, especially with Pikell as their HC. I think he's a tad bit overrated (actually, extremely) and getting two absolute stars was going against how he usually builds his rosters.

A while back, Washut said that we spent around $2.5 mil this year which was in the top half of the BIG.

I also saw a rumor that we paid Bearkat nearly a million to come here. Tfwiw.

You mean like they have been
Two years (hopefully) in a row of them making the NCAA tournament is just the beginning of consistency. Fred doesn’t even have an above .500 record as HC here. I am somewhat amazed we have NIL donations to do what we did in football recruiting due to the lack of consistency in a winning product on the field.

When I say top end I was meaning players that usually go to blue bloods programs like you said in your other post.
Mostly my point with these posts is NIL contributions should be better if we are showing improvement within the programs with consistent winning. Fred had a little trouble with that his first few years here. The jury is still out on Rhule if he will completely turn the program around but I am optimistic that both Fred and Rhule will have consistent winning programs here.

Looks like we were first big offer. Just wait for the others to come in. Will probably end up top 100 and end up at a blue blood
Do we have any open HS spots in ‘25 for a guy like Bryson Bahl?

If history taught us anything we’ll be battling the big boys for Bryson Bahl in the portal in 3 years. Get him now?

How much better is Quentin Rhymes than Bryson Bahl?

Didn’t we just do this with Frager?
