I believe it was Jumbo Stiehm who after rattling off 55-14 record (33-4 in the MVC) from 1911-1915 got into an altercation with a Native American medicine man out in Box Butte county while he was on a recruiting trip. The shaman placed a curse on Nebrasketball which lead to Jumbo's eventually departure to Indianus and the curse could only be lifted if Stiehm returned to Box Butte county with an autographed basketball to break bread. Sadly Stiehm died of stomach cancer at 37 and Nebrasketball remains cursed to this day
