***Everyone I’ve talked to about Nebraska’s hire of Pat Monaghan has had nothing but glowing things to say about the new assistant coach.

It became immediately apparent that he is extremely well-liked as a person and respected as a coach. Descriptors such as “great dude,” “big-time recruiter,” “really smart,” and “stud” were used to characterize him.

Head coach Fred Hoiberg heavily praised Monaghan in Nebraska’s official press release announcing the hire. Hoiberg told me that he had consistently heard similar positive feedback about Monaghan throughout the interview process.

“He’s a grinder for sure,” Hoiberg said. “Everybody he worked for said he’s a rockstar.”
