Would be nice to have a sure fire #1 WR but Dana already showed he’s a dude. I believe a lot more in the skill guys than rolling out a RS FR OT, have to get a tackle imo over a WR.

There were shifts and changes in the visit schedule for four-star transfer edge rusher Kameron Olds, who is set for his final two visits this weekend before making a decision. Olds already visited Georgia Tech and Nebraska, and the former Kent State standout has back-to-back SEC visits coming up.

"I am going to be at Kentucky on Friday and then Ole Miss on Saturday," said the 6-foot-4, 245-pound Olds, who is the transfer portal's No. 8 edge rusher. "I am trying to make a decision after this weekend.

"I am trying to relax and not have stress about this decision. I am really trying to make a decision pretty quickly. Hopefully, after my two visits this weekend."

Olds made the official visit and met with John Butler, who took over the defensive coordinator duties after Tony White left for Florida State. He learned about the fit, and he was blown away by the facilities.

"The facilities are phenomenal," Olds said. "It's like NFL facilities. It's crazy."

Georgia Tech impressed Olds on several levels.

"I like (coach) Brent Key and coach (Tyler) Santucci, the D coordinator," he said. "They have a great program going and it's up and coming. It's only building. I feel like they are going to be in the playoff soon. Possibly next year."

Olds played at Midlothian (Va.) High before taking a post-grad season at Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy after Covid curtailed his recruitment. He signed with Buffalo before transferring to Kent State. He had a breakout 2024 season in which he made 42 tackles, including six sacks.

And dating back to the early days of his recruitment, Olds made it to Kentucky and he is eager to get back.

"It's the SEC and coach Brad White, the D coordinator, he's been recruiting me and the conversations with him are good." Olds said. "I feel like I need to see the people, meet the people. I've been to Kentucky before during the recruiting process but I feel like I need to see it now."

After finishing the Kentucky visit, Olds will travel to Ole Miss.

"(Defensive line) coach (Randall) Joyner has been recruiting me since the jump from when I hit the portal," Old said. "I like his enthusiasm. I like the conversations I have with him."

The Sandy side of me is saying it's not looking good for us with no mention of a connection with our coaches but he did like the facilities.

They are bringing in 30-35 or so guys most likely.

They don't want to take 30 guys. Probably half of that.

They have a board that likely ranks people by position which they do not disclose.

Positional needs are largely not interchangeable. You can't take 4 guys you like at a position if you can only allocate two roster spots to the position. You may have to pick and choose WREs, for example, so you can get necessary DL depth.

Why am I saying this? It is very difficult to judge how successful they are by the battles they have won or lost to date. They are competing for guys until classes start in the latter part of January. They also may have intel about guys who may be entering the portal later - not just up until 12/28 but until 5 days passes after each of the 12 CFB teams play their last playoff game. There should be some very good players entering after 12/28. They may be waiting for some of these guys to enter. The guess was we'd take 15, we are roughly halfway there already ten days in with 30+ days to go.

It's way too early to panic.

Thanks for this thoughtful and measured take. With that said, nothing is going to stop me from doing this:
