I'm truly curious how you can get to this conclusion? Are you just guarding yourself from being hurt again, or do you actually feel this way?

I won't lie, this is a part of me that is so battered and beaten from the past decade that I am afraid of a score like that too.

But then I watched last Thursday and this past Saturday and I don't know what from those games makes you think it will end like this. Colorado scored 30 at home against an FCS team. Now they have to go on the road in a hostile environment against a top 20 defense.

Nebraska scored 40 against UTEP. Last year UTEP had a considerably better defense than Colorado, statistically. And I get that this isn't last year and both teams have changed. But again, what did you see last Thursday that makes you think that Colorado's defense is markedly better?

This is a game that Nebraska should control from start to finish. Shedildo, Hunter and Horn will get theirs too and make some big plays that will make it appear closer that it actually is. I imagine that it will look something like we go up 14-0 at the end of the first quarter with them not being able to do anything on offense. Then Hunter or Horn will break free for a big play in the second quarter to make it a one score game - despite us dominating the game, everyone is suddenly a little nervous. Then we rattle off another 10 with them not being able to move the ball much at all to end the half. 24-7 at half. But, they get the ball first and break a big one again early in the third to make it 24-14. Methodically, we respond with an 8 minute drive to go up 31-14. We go into the fourth, Colorado hasn't really done anything on offense outside of 3-4 big plays. They likely will get another late TD too because they won't stop taking shots and we get some younger guys in. The finally is something like 34-24, but the game was never really that close.
I came to the conclusion of it being a toss up based on a few factors:

-CU has an NFL QB with great experience and great talent to throw to, including what is one of the best players in CFB in Hunter. Horn is as good of a WR as Hunter. Sanders was under immense pressure against NU last year and still managed to put up close to 400 yards.
-Raiola is a very good player but is also a true FR. It’s his first big game under the lights and will deal with a better pass rush and Hunter shutting down half the field. I don’t think he’ll have a bad game but don’t think he’ll be lights out either.

NU is a better team YOY but I don’t anticipate a blowout. It goes late into the 4th with a real possibility to lose this one.

I'm going to keep harping on this - Colorado's LBs are bad.

Driving into the office this morning, I had a vision of the 2014 Nebraska v Wisconsin game where Melvin Gordon ran for over 400 on us. We literally couldn't stop the end around jet sweep. In my vision, it was Barney running for days on this same play....

I can confirm from a direct source (player on the team) that the defense has had their eye on this game all off-season. This is a statement game for them. I will stop short of saying that there is a "bounty" on Hunter, but was told that they plan to have a long, physical night for him.
Just don't get targeting is all I care about; I hope they hit him low and hard. It's not just Hunter. The other kid is crazy fast.

Our Runing game is the biggest factor in the game outside turnovers. If we run a and control the clock we win. If we have to throw, throw, throw and give them the ball for more than 50 plays, we have a decent shot at losing.

I'd be much more worried about Hartzog if we was at corner. I don't mind him at safety. I understand that he got burned on Saturday, but I really do think that had more to do with the pace of UTEP - that pace was truly incredible on that 3 play drive.

And I actually want to see Buford lined up on Hunter. Buford is so physical and I know for a fact that it is his goal to make it as long of a night as he personally can for Hunter. Shade a safety over the top because Hunter is good enough to get by him, but Buford will make him earn it. That leaves Tommi on Horn. If Tommi is the guy that everyone believes he is now, he should be able to hold his own.

@Bootleg11 is correct to be worried about Hartzog. CU will try to go after him. But he's the Nickel, and its up to Nebraska to make sure they can avoid unfavorable matchups.

I just can't see NU Defense giving up more than 17 points to CU unless, like last year, NU has multiple turnovers. Colorado defense and o-line are likely to shit themselves in the environment they will experience.

35-17 NU

Pasted from other thread, People are really buying too much into the Colorado offenses hype. Their offense isn't peak Oregon here. They have two great players, and a few other decent WRs. But all they got is the homerun threat. They were figured out last year.

2023 Reality Check:

6 pts vs Oregon - 159 passing yards, 199 Total yards

24 pts vs ASU - 239 passing yards, 295 Total yards

16 pts vs UCLA - 217 passing yards, 247 total yards

19 pts vs Oregon St - 223 passing yards, 418 total yards

14 pts vs WSU - 164 passing yards, 255 total yards

17 pts vs Utah - 225 passing yards, 262 total yards

Forgot about Prime and all the flash. They had under 300 total yards in 6 of their last 9 games and went 1-8 in the Pac 12. I know Nebraska fans are browbeaten over the past 7 years and we can never have nice things, but CU fucking sucks. They arent good. Change their name to Cal with a regular coach and no one is afraid of this team. As long as Nebraska's offense doesn't put them into bad positions. The Blackshirts should dominate. This should be a 2010 Washington type game IMO. 56-21.

I wholeheartedly disagree, you put your best CB on Hunter. Let Buford out physical Horn and bring safety help if needed. Hill can hang with Hunter to the point he won’t kill you offensively, especially if you hit this shit out of him when he’s of defense. Hunter will get his, but hes not going to go off for 3 TDs like last week

The best thing is they had to show a lot more than we did last week too. They found themselves in a tight game and had to start opening things up more to pull it out. We still have a ton up our sleeves. Beat Hunter up anytime he's on the field - I'm imagining a nice run block beat down, too, by Banks - and slow down Horn and the game should be easy.

This all looks great. Its 2024. Different team. I am not saying they are drastically better, but I believe they are some better. CU is going to score 20+ points. We need 30 or more to win.

I know I'm probably in the vast minority here, but I think Horn is the better WR. Hunter has unreal playmaking ability and is a very good WR. But I think he is a better DB than WR too.

WRs are 1a and 1b with Colorado. I like Buford on Hunter because I know how physical he will be with him and will make it a longer night for him. Buford on him helps Banks and Neyor too.

I think that is very plausable.

I don't think people can watch the 1st game of both teams and come to the conclusion that Colorado will be within 1 score at the end.

Folks are worried about Hartzog, he'd be the star in NDSU's secondary and they kept Colorado to 31 points in Boulder. They may try and go after him, but he knows it, White knows it and they will have a plan.

Only thing I disagree with you on is Horn. I frankly don't think he is that good and think he is their 4th best WR that got a bit lucky last week and had a great game. NDSU had some massive coverage breakdowns that Horn took advantage of. I wouldn't cater the defense towards any of the WRs, Hunter is special at playing the ball, but his route running isn't. Just play solid defense like we can, tackle well and respect their speed and we will have a good day.
