Nebraska - Good offense & Good defense

We are good this year but not great. PSU might be a better matchup for us than Cockeye.

Indiana and Ohio State in a league of their own.

Thanks for posting. I really have no clue what to expect from Penn St. We'll probably learn a lot from how they do against MSU. They seem to be Michigan St with a better offense.

Interesting that UCLA was the worst D we've faced in Conference. I think outside of Akron or HCU, I would choose UCLA as the game for Lateef to make his first career start.

Toughest D's on schedule
1. Cockeye
2. Michigan
3. USC
4. Northwestern
5. Minnesota
6. Maryland

7. Cincinatti
8. Michigan St
9. Penn St.
10. UCLA
11. Akron

I think ESPNs FPI counts special teams in their overall efficiency rankings. They’ve got us ranked at 36th. Which sounds about right.

I have only seen parts of two Cockeye games this year, but I’m still surprised to see that our ST efficiency is significantly better than Iowas.

We’re currently 2nd in the conference, 5th nationally.

I can’t remember when we last had even decent special teams.

Pelini was the coach.

I agree. I think them getting a kick blocked and returned for a TD against Penn St hurt their ranking a lot (which it should, that's a 10pt swing). Without that, they're probably similar to us I bet.

They looked like a pretty typical Cockeye ST unit, minus scoring any non FG related points in the portions of the games I saw. They’re usually good for a couple of ‘Flip the field’ sequences a game and seem to score on ST a lot. Their kicking and coverage game is pretty similar to what we’ve done this year, and I’m sure the blocked kick against Penn State didn’t help. It’s not a ranking I typically look at, so I’m not sure how we compared prior to Saturday.

Regardless, I’ll take it. Usually the weakest of the three phases of football for us.

Bo's last year.

Very nice. Opponent adjusted stats still show a pretty decent defense. We are also very young. Additional experience and two porthole adds on the DL could make us very dangerous next year.

Next year I'd love to be sitting about where BYU/Ole Miss are on this chart right now

Interesting PSU looks right there with us
Yeah. PSU will be a bearcat for us. I just don't see us matching up with them at home. They are still athletically a top tier team. Hoping that the lack of mobility at QB will help our defense. But man its going to be tough sledding for our offense.

When you look at our youth at DL and LB beyond a couple of bodies, I can’t help but think those groups get exponentially better next year. On the down side, we do lose talented guys on the back end and that will likely look a little different. Of course with Guthrie and Jones coming back, there will be some consistency.
