Why couldn't Nebraska develop what they have on campus while adding an edge rushers or two as an insurance policy? They just made this same gamble on the DL last year and it blew up pretty spectacularly.

Cig is 100% a unicorn/statical anomaly. This has never happened - as far as I’m aware - in terms of taking a bottom tier major conference program and turning them into a likely national champion in two years.

Hell, even Saban took longer than that. I think he took three years and beyond him and Cig that never happens.

To be fair the portal hasn’t been around long. If it was the old system, it would have took Cignetti a lot longer to build Indiana up, and maybe he would have never got there. I think you will see other coaches have success using the portal as time goes on, but I don’t expect the freaky success Cignetti has had.
