It was his first game!

New head coach, new staff, new systems, 40+ new players

Everyone said all offseason that we are gonna suck. So we go toe-to-toe with Minnesota in the first game and we almost beat them and now you're all melting down
It isn't melting down its being super disgusted that the same shit keeps happening. The football team - they melted down. I'm disgusted. You are a total pollyanna. I get that. I'm not calling for anything I'm expressing how that game last night was yet another win that the Huskers couldn't bring home. When it happens again and again you'll still be telling us its rain not piss on our backs. I said numerous times before the season that year 3 will be the true measuring of Rhule and his staff. But games like last night feed the narrative of habitual losers. What makes recruiting easier? a 17-7 win or totally shitting the bed in the fourth quarter? If you think that opposing coaches aren't going to use that to good effect on the recruiting trail then you are not only a pollyanna you have your head in the sand.

Who cares though (in the macro sense)? A loss is a loss.

I mean, you had a new QB, new RB, new WRs, new TE, new C, starting OG who was suspended 1 full yr, new LBs, freshmen DEs, new S, new HC, new assistant coaches, new kicker, new KR, new PR.

You're gonna get this in CFB w that many new faces and no preseason + conference road game as your opener. I'm not happy about the way we lost either but gotta understand macro context too.

(BTW none of this is sunshine-pumping, I'm only saying that a mistake-laden shit show was very predictable in this type of road game/season opener, thus we shouldn't freak out and fire everyone)
To the "who cares" - It actually does kind of matter how we lose though. If we played clean football and our losses were from talent disadvantages, we'd be looking at 8-4 this year. Since we lose because of stupid mistakes, there could be 2 extra games that we end up losing, maybe more.

Could argue last night was already one of them since we had more than enough talent to win that game.

To the rest, yeah mistakes are definitely predictable. I would say four turnovers is a bit beyond that though.

Fair point.

My point is, it's a bigger issue on game 12 than it is in game 1. ESPECIALLY if your game one is a road game vs a top 5 B1G program over the last 5 years. Everyone & their mother knew that was a recipe for a mistake-prone game. Hell, Minnesota is a stable program w a 7 yr HC and they looked pretty god awful as well. I'm just saying it was so 100% expected that we don't need to wring our hands and fire everyone over it.

Now if we opened at home vs Bethune Cookman, I'd be a little harder on the team and willing to do the play by play post mortem. I just don't think it's worth the effort bc that's a really, really difficult draw to open a new HC tenure with.

I'm 100% willing to dissect "how" we win or how we lose over these next 3 games. And it should be done. My point is, we knew that opener was going to be an absolute slopfest about 6 months ago, and it pretty much was exactly what we expected.

We have a fan base that loves moral victories and youtube videos now… the wins and losses dont matter anymore. Its a joke.
My point exactly. Game 1 was a loss. A loss is a loss is a loss. We don't need to dissect it and try to make moral victories out of it. Gotta take the L and own it. And on to the next one. I honest don't have the energy to care "how we lost"...a loss is a loss, who gives a F how we lost.

I honestly thought this board was pretty football savvy for awhile

Got true colors calling me out right now because Hutmacher had 4 tackles last night. Lmfao

Next day opinion….I’m encouraged. Yeah, we gave it away. But we actually looked situationally prepared, we just didn’t execute clean enough. It didn’t look discipline related, other than Bork and Piper. I predict Bork learns from his mistake, and that first game ansiness is gone quick for him. Piper is notorious so I suppose you either play the back up or deal with him and continue to coach it. I choose Piper in that situation.

For how little I know about scheme and in game analysis, I liked the game plan. But, Satterfield needs ripped by Rhule that shitty 3 pass and punt drive, and Barthal needs ripped for putting in Grant when he’s known for fumbling during camp. Of course that goes back to Rhule though at the top. I’d like to think it’ll be addressed this week

But, I have optimism. It just looked more organized for the first time in a long time

I don't think anyone on the board is taking pleasure in the loss. Some people want to dissect it play by play, that's their right.

You don't need to attack everyone ...they can follow the game how they want to. I actually haven't seen any "moral victorying" on here, most people are just super pissed off that we started w another L.

You're manufacturing a moral victory thing that I don't really see. IMHO people did that during the Frost era but it hasn't been a thing I saw since he was fired.

Learn the difference bwteeen solo and assisted tackles then get back to me.

How many passing/rushing yards and tackles you have your senior year? I led my team in all 3 categories.
Watch Out Badass GIF

On the 50 yard line with a minute to go and we let our absolute liability of QB sit in the pocket and lose it for us. My fucking God. Good game boys! When you lose a game you have a 95.8% chance to win with 5:00 to go is always encouraging. Good coaches do it all the time! Lotta steps forward last night.

Keep thinking Rhule was a good hire! Your socfuckin smart!
But like how many rushing yards & tackles we talking? I totally thought you were just a troll with a learning disability but I had literally no idea you led your team in rushing & receiving yards as well as tackles senior year. This changes everything
