Lakers would be smart to not have AD trying to guard Jokic too much. Denver's bread and butter is Jokic catching the ball at the free throw line, and distributing or scoring a lot from there. As the Dubs showed, if you can pull AD away from guarding the hoop, that's a good recipe for negating his massive defensive impact some.
Lakers should try guarding Jokic with a combo of guys who are not AD a lot. Sure AD will have to guard him some, and has historically made it tougher on Jokic than almost any other Big in the league. But I would go with other options and allow AD to guard Gordon and stay more in the paint. Jokic is going to get his, but if he is getting his and getting others theirs too, might as well try to limit the others getting their more. That works better if AD is guarding the paint more. Also, AD is a great backside defender so not being POA defending Joker all the time would be a good idea.
We will see how Darvin Ham rolls out the defensive assignments. Offensively, LAL should attack the hoop relentlessly. Denver is not a great defensive team, and Jokic's biggest weakness is defensively. Lakers have the size/bulk/hoop attacking advantage on most any team, when they drubbed the Dubs, it was when they were attacking the hoop hard and consistently.
Will be an interesting series. Different team for the Lakers to prepare for from the Dubs, although Denver has been shooting great from 3, a lot of that is from open shots from actions involving Jokic. If the Lakers can force Denver into taking more contested shots, like they did to the Dubs, I think the series should be a good one.
