There's no way you can offer the supermax to a guy who can't even dribble. It's a pretty bad free agent class, so Boston may be able to move Brown for parts. I just don't see how you lock up that much of your salary cap with two wings who struggle to create offense outside of themselves.
I can see Boston trying to trade Brown. And Brown doesn't seem too keen on staying in Boston. He's a Cal guy.
He doesn't have a good handle. But he is a good player. I think Brown will have suitors obviously, but he is a robin, not a batman. For instance, the Lakers could use a wing player like Brown. The Celtics could use a guy who can run an offense (good at PnR and distributing plus some decent scoring) better than what they have now. A guy like Dlo would actually make some sense for Boston. Lakers would have to take a bad contract from Boston, and Lakers would probably have to add in another player of good value. I am sure Boston would ask for Reaves, but I wouldn't do that if I were the Lakers. Maybe Vanderbilt or Beasley. Can't remember Boston and LAL trading players, so I think it would be very unlikely.
Not that I think the above proposed will happen, but just an example of an option Boston would have for moving Brown, and improving their club to solidify their needs for what the club may be lacking. I think Boston would have a lot of options, really. But they kind of have a mess besides just Brown. Mazzula - is he the right head coach? Tatum - extremely talented, but is he a true alpha, superstar when it comes to nut cutting time? Horford is old. Smart is combustible. This current group, while having gotten to the finals last season, just hasn't fulfilled their peak IMO. Maybe Boston just tries to run it back, but kinda doubt it.
Will be an interesting off season after the draft and once free agency starts. See what teams might try to move some chess pieces, there are quite a few teams who will be looking to improve.
