My Kansas connections are saying

The Big 12's best option is to merge with the Mountain West or AAC.

Is the B12 remnants + Memphis, Houston, UCF and Cincinnati a P5 conference? I don't think so.

clearly not a power 4 conference but also would clearly be the 5th best conference

And for almost all of those schools, that’s a fine place to be

Ex: KSU will have less than 19,000 students this fall and their endowment is roughly 1/4 the size of Nebraska’s. (and we aren’t a “rich” school) a conference like this is the correct place for KSU type schools. Never should have been playing vs the big boys to begin with.

the idea of K State playing a high stakes game @ Tulsa to determine a conference championship that their own fans won't even be able to enjoy makes my dick hard

Other than less money it would probably be beneficial to KSU

More wins and better recruiting. (Cuz they ain’t recruiting kids right now with promises of titles or big bowls so non power conf status doesn’t matter)

5 schools in Texas, 2 in central Florida… like I said not bad landing spot for KSU/Tech/Baylor/WVU other than less money.

Only former Big 12 school that would have a downgrade is Oklahoma State but they have nobody to blame but themselves for being so poor and stupid. (Academic standards lower than even KSU which is literally just the head Juco in Kansas)

The AAC is also going to benefit heavily from playoff expansion and NIL. Those schools are going to get more money and exposure because of the playoff, and they're already in the best recruiting areas. Merging with the Big 12 would expand their reach across the whole south.

I could only hope to have Ole Stuck as my insider connection. Obviously I am not important enough for that kind of high faluting elbow rubbing. I am relegated to my relatives and friends who work for or use to work for the KU Athletic Department, or are friends with coaches, or are friends with the AD, or are big boosters, former players, have kids who play on the football or basketball team,........... Lots of them come stay at my place at the Lake of the Ozarks. 2 were down this week. I got KU dialed in on so many levels. Heck Before I fell in the lake last summer peeing drunk off a dock I had Bill Self's cell number in my phone.

For you old timers that use to go to Lawrence for Husker games how do you think it is possible that a bar named after KU's mascot, The Hawk, would turn into a Husker Bar on gameday with Lincoln's very own Sidetrack Band Playing? KU fans thought that was a slap in the face, which it was. We gots that town dialed in. GBR!!!!
Not called the Hawk anymore

To an extent you are correct but I also beg to differ, as we still refer to it as The Hawk. And if you don't believe me I will ask my brother, who is one of the owners of "The Jayhawk Cafe" or "The Hawk" and happens to be at my house on the Lake of the Ozarks with me right now. The owner of The Wheel is with us also. Fuckers are always coming down here with people from Lawrence drinking my beer and eating my food so when I go to Lawrence I roll around that town in style.

It went from The Hawk back in the day and then they tried O Street and 18th Amendment as names. They were trying to act like a new bar. Would work for 1 year then the next would be dead the next. So they went back to the original name. Then they expanded by adding the Beer Garden, Boom Boom Room and Martini Lounge. Everyone still just calls it the Hawk even though technically it is named The Jayhawk Cafe. Even when I am hanging in their offices it is always referred to as The Hawk.

Easier said than done. The Big 12 will get $35M per school this year. The AAC schools will come in just under $7M per school. Even if you said adding those schools together bumps you up to $15 per, losing $20M a year would devastate them and their athletic department.

Now is it inevitable that they will have to take a pay cut, absolutely, but it doesn’t mean they’ll necessarily do better because they are moving into a lesser conference.

They still feel that unless something big happens with the Pac 12, which they don't really want, that they will end up in the B1G. I would love to have them back in the same conference because we will fill The Hawk on game day weekends plus can generally get free football tickets from the Athletic Department. We could use an easy win on our schedule plus I really think it would help our recruiting in KC plus Kansas and Missouri. GBR

Agreed.

My post was starting with the basis that the $35m a year is gone. OU and UT leaving will either kill the Big 12 (very likely) or if the conference somehow survives, a new TV deal will be nothing compared to what they previously got.

KSU fans are worried they might not even get a spot in the American. My Dad is very good friends with the head of the power cat booster club and a guy on the board of regents, they are all freaking out because nobody is donating to KSU anymore and student enrollment is now less than 19.000.

My post was simply about how if KSU did land there, its not the worst thing in the world. The American is certainly better than the Mountain West or any other Group of 5 destination.

But yeah, they will likely cut every sport they can no matter what conference they end up in because (as previously mentioned) those paychecks ain't gonna be even in the same ball park as previous.

lived in KS from June 2016 to April 2021 (we now live in McCook... so just 14 miles North of the border, but my Wife still works in Kansas and we have businesses there)

No optimism, No Hope, No Money, No Water, No State pride, Nobody cares.

I drove by there the other day and thought it was called something else. I texted my brother in law, he was a bouncer there when he was at KU. He has some funny stories about that place.

So I assume Kansas is not getting the invite?
