I got that 7/12 tbh kinda sad
Part of me was, too. I would have gladly performed my civic duty and I've heard that it gives you a different perspective on our legal system, and even as a tPB oulde, I'm always open to new perspectives and learning. BUT ... I really hate traffic and parking and the whole hassle of it all, and I've got some camper prep work to do that I'm now free to undertake. So I'm grateful that I "got the week back" to start (and finish) some of those projects.

After hearing from a good friend in PA that had just finished serving as the foreman of the jury for an attempted murder of a police officer trial in June, I was happy to avoid jury duty.

I’m a weirdo and watch live trials on YouTube!

Back in 1995 I was selected for an attempted murder trial in Orange County Superior Court in Santa Ana. 22 year old gang member from Fullerton stuck a steak knife into the chest of a rival gang member. Blade hit the sternum and broke off or we'd have had a murder trial.

Dragged on for 2 weeks and it took us 30 minutes to find him guilty but we stayed in the jury room for another hour to make us look thoughtful.

When the verdict was read the entire room was filled with his buddy gang members staring us down along with about a dozen armed Orange County Sheriffs keeping watch. Afterward we went into the judge's chambers where he thanked us and said we probably should steer clear of Fullerton for a few months. No shit. Armed escorts walked us to the parking garage and sent us on our way.

Big city life.

That’s scary shit.

My buddy’s case was just a standard degenerate guy who was being arrested for domestic violence, tried to grab the officers gun from his holster in order to escape, it discharged into the officer’s hip and nearly killed Jim.

They couldn’t find intent for attempted murder, But he’s getting 30 years for the other convictions.
