And now the obits are the most expensive bit of real estate in the newspaper. It's crazy what they charge. My MIL died last month, and I was kinda stunned at what they wanted to publish her obit. Stroked the check (bitterly) of course, but dayum ...

in Northwest Kansas publication requirements are funny

only 1 newspaper for 1,000 sq miles and it publishes once a week (every county in NWKS only has a single newspaper and they are all owned by the same douche bag)

Nearest more than once a week paper is McCook (different State) and even the McCook paper is only a few days a week

Major headache for notice requirements in bankruptcies, divorces, incorporations, estates and trusts, etc etc.

It's an interesting trend line to watch, for sure, regarding the demise and/or consolidation of local newspapers and it's impact on legal notices, etc. You'd have to think that at some point in the not-so-distant future, there will be a "State of _____" website that creditors can check or get notifications from to supplant or replace a dying newspaper industry.

There's a million dollar idea for ya @scotchfrost9697. Privately managed legal notice website that lives via integration with public government entity websites. Probably pull enough scratch off that thing to pay for a YUGE deck on any new property under consideration. 😏

When I was kid Deshler had a weekly paper called the Deshler Rustler. Whenever we'd go there to visit my grandparents they'd print a story informing the fair citizens that we were in town for the summer. They'd then talk about my Mom having graduated from Deshler HS and basically printing her bio, as if everybody didn't know. And they'd do it every...single...visit. Thayer County paparazzi.

sort of have it already but the state would have to change the statute (and possibly the constitution because of due process issues)

Kansas is about to consolidate their state wide judicial, they are just now realizing they are closer to being Nebraska than they ever will be Diet Coke Ohio.

They did that in the Saunders County newspaper but that was only people that called it in and notified the paper.

John and Kathy Lewis had dinner with Steve and Cheryl Hayes on Friday night at El Bees in Waterloo.

Mrs. LHR & I had dinner at El Bees last week, but it was with Mike & Brenda. I did not see Steve & Cheryl, but I’ll keep an eye out for them on our next visit.

Watching this Arizona vs. Vanderbilt CWS game (we’re in the 12th inning now).

Q: How has that “Vandy Whistler” dude survived this long without someone splitting his head with a war axe?

I’ve had to mute the broadcast. Jameis H. Winston that perpetual sound is annoying.

Just sitting here with our (non-baseball) friends discussing a “Go Fund Me” for anyone who sticks a carving knife in that fucker’s throat.
😡

p.s……really surprised that he hasn’t been murdered by a Vandy fan.
