As a former fan of the game, I'm utterly ambivalent towards it's future. Sure, it would be nice to watch some baseball, but ...

I used to watch 100 games a year and probably 20 in the park. It's gradually diminished to the point of maybe having watched a dozen while they are on at bocce league night. The season is too long, the games are too long and slow, and there are so many meaningless games.

I don't know if a true cap is the answer because all of that is way above my pay grade, but even as a Dodgers fan I can admit that they really need to do something about competitive balance. Shit, I wouldn't mind them doing something similar to the premier league with relegation so that maybe some of the cheap fuck owners would actually try to field a decent team. Obviously that'll never happen, though.

Absolutely! I mean I'm a Mets fan because I just can't get enough misery in my sports life but in general I feel like baseball could/should be so much more fun for casual fans.

lol. I didn't realize that was a thing. I've read that the league doesn't market itself well, but i didn't realize it went that far. That's idiotic.

Exactly, that's always been such a huge appeal to me but the MLB of the past 15+ years seems hellbent on being a league for mathematicians and uptight old men haha
