The Challenger explosion would be a better comparison than the Titanic. Experts in both cases raised huge red flags, but too much money was poured into both of these endeavors and previous "successes" allowed both NASA and OceanGate to believe the experts' warnings were wrong. The Titanic was a more in the heat of the moment issue where even if the warnings weren't ignored, there was still a possibility the same result would have happened. The larger issue with the Titanic was that they believed it was "indestructible".
