@cwessel76 rn….Damn. Just saw Tucker Carlson on twitch claim they found a floating penis above the titanic.
Has it been documented at all that they had any plans or precautions for ice bergs? I have to think that was probably in the plans for "just in case" scenarios, but I don't know. How in the world could they think something be indestructible against a literal giant mass of ice? Wild to meThe Challenger explosion would be a better comparison than the Titanic. Experts in both cases raised huge red flags, but too much money was poured into both of these endeavors and previous "successes" allowed both NASA and OceanGate to believe the experts' warnings were wrong. The Titanic was a more in the heat of the moment issue where even if the warnings weren't ignored, there was still a possibility the same result would have happened. The larger issue with the Titanic was that they believed it was "indestructible".

they had spotters, but it was dark and they were going too fast to turn the ship in timeHas it been documented at all that they had any plans or precautions for ice bergs? Yeah I remember the speed thing being mentioned in the movie. I know it was a long time ago but they didn't have any basic technology to detect giant masses of ice sticking up outta the water ever so slightly?they had spotters, but it was dark and they were going too fast to turn the ship in time
weren't they going for some type of speed record?

Not that it happened, but that's a tough Monday morning meeting with the ol boss man.....They had spotters who were supposed to look for the ice bergs. I might be wrong, but I watched a documentary on it quite some time back and I thought I remembered that there was something that caused a fake horizon and so the spotters were looking higher than they were supposed to, causing them to miss them.
Yeah, and that one is only at a 1,275 ft depth. At ~12,000 you're looking at ~375 atmospheres/5,500 PSI. They would have been vaporized before even realizing what happened. So it was very quick for them.
Honestly, give me that death over a slow one in a small sub stuck on the bottom of the ocean with limited food, water, and oxygen.
