Message board stories aka Is HPH still a thing?

There’s a revised list in this thread

I saw that as well.

Hadn’t heard of most of the additions.

I’m guessing I’ve worked too much since the advent of social media. It’s likely why I have no idea why the HyVee Parking Lot Pissing Match is so energetically posted in.

I agree whole-heartedly on H3 being a big time piece of shit. I can't remember his name now, as it's been a lot of years, but there were two board members over at HPH that were married. They were a younger couple. I can't remember what he went by, but she went by Froggie. I met them at one of the get togethers at Lazlos and continued a friendship with the husband for a year or so. They were newer to the Dallas area and they had met Harold at the North Texans for Nebraska meetings and he had taken them under his wing. Harold ended up doing some pretty shady shit and ended up having an affair with Froggie and she eventually left her husband. Dude was devastated and left the board, which was the last time I heard from him.
H3 was never wrong. The guy would argue about anything. There were actually some good posters on that board. If I remember it right tunagill got under his skin so he quit posting. He was a drama Queen.

My buddy is a member of HPH. H3 seems to have some decent information. Or at least things I can acknowledge are true. Like when Jamrog was presenting to boosters about the struggles of flying commercial and we needed help ponying up for PJs and/or to get 2-3 recruiting staffers for help (if you remember Coach Els was doing linebackers/special teams coordinator/recruiting coordinator). Either boosters didn't step up or Eichorst shut it down, can't remember, then when they hired Riley they gave him what Pelini had asked for which really made me laugh.

The thing about H3 and many of other "insiders" I've found over the years: the more one leans into their insider status, the more of a socially inept and abrasive doosh they are. They are easily triggered if you do not acknowledge their rank and self-appointed status. Even worse are the hoards of emasculated dudes that praise them and police anyone that questions the insider.

Mark was complete ass. His wife was a saint. Coached one of his daughters and she took after her mother.

I will give Mark credit, he showed up for his kids events. I had the chance to remove him from my sideline once. That’s was fun.

The epic story of him yelling at 8th graders in pee wee basketball was always one of my favorite stories too.

HT is still around under some weird domain name. Besides politics it was ruined by the deaths of two of its best members - HuskerSlut, who was just a top-notch human being, and Nitin who was basically the glue that held the site together and just one amazingly kind and generous guy. Both passed far, far too young.

Nitin was a such a great guy. He used to call me regularly for help with his Excel sheets that he was trying to use to manage OPPD's call center. Talk about a guy that was all about sports. I remember that he was supposed to go on a free 2 week Alaskan Cruise with his girlfriend and he was so upset about it because he didn't think the ship would have Wi-Fi and he would miss the NBA playoff games.

Slut (Allan) was a great guy too. I still remember a story he had about almost swinging with some co-worker or vendor that was out of town and came over and ended up in his hot tub.

As Bill Busch says on Early Break...Better Times...

H3 was the worst. He ran a competing board that was full of sycophants who worshipped him and gave him license to indulge really toxic online behavior. Very strange stuff.

Having said that, I always liked one of his pals, The Fabulous Beekeeper. He had great taste in music and did an excellent job on that ESPN reality show that Mike Hall won to get a gig as a sportscaster (BeeKeeper probably deserved to win, but was older, which likely hurt him).
Wasn’t his first name Kelly? I never was on HPH but remember watching him on TV.

anyone post on the ESPN message boards back in the day, probably 20 years ago?
The Dana v drama that forced espn to close the message boards was awesome.

Not as good as Bevo burgers but solid. Still my favorite urban dictionary entry to date. Legendary thread.

Or Tough Tony Davis and the fraudulent fuckery he engaged in. Ticket scam or something to that effect.
Yup, ticket scam where he sold a bunch of tickets to members on the board and collected the $ but never delivered the tickets to the 2001 OU game. Group of those that were swindled (a few of them attorneys) organized and went after him, Mike McKnight did a segment on channel 6 on it.

I was on there. It was really my first entry into message boards. I got pulled from that board when it was becoming a shit show to another board called “nside Huskers”. Smaller community that at its peak was maybe 100 people talking. Mostly espn board ex-pats.

I don’t recall the Dana drama that shut it down. I think I left before that as I remember going back for shits and grins and it just not being there anymore.

The guy that pulled me over was a truck driver that was cock sure of every bit of intel he shared on the espn board. Probably had a 50/50 hit rate but never wavered. I think his name was TunnelWalker or maybe something about WI… IDK for sure as he randomly stopped posting on the other board years ago.

That board was led by a couple cousins. One was a dentist in NE that I remember would share Larry the Cable Guy’s box. The other I never knew what he did. Eventually he stopped posting, the Admin stopped posting, and the board stopped working. So the remaining people just moved over to a discord channel since we didn’t need to maintain that. Maybe only 10 or so of us left.

The guy that ran the site I think did spend some time in jail. He was a good guy from my interactions. He was always trying to make money but nothing I saw him do felt like he was trying to take advantage of people or it was some BS scheme.

The only poster of significance on that board I’ve seen elsewhere was “Lifer” who is now at On3. He wasn’t an insider but just a good conversationalist.

The other poster that has a trail to someone people probably know is the older brother of the twitter handle @gbrhomer. Johnny is that guy, Shane is his big brother who was on our board. I was personally responsible for chasing him away. We argued about EVERYTHING. The great debate of HD DVD vs Blueray was epic and extensive. Shane knew football and always took a wait and see approach. And I was a “I’m immediately right, your wrong, and let me tell you about it” guy. Kind of a prick. Johnny posted for a bit toward the end but once Shane quit Johnny went full time to twitter.

Im pretty sure that message board got its intel from poker games they played in Lincoln, but it’s been too long to remember for sure.
