Let's say we win 6 games but...

We still look like shit in doing so. Let's say we go and beat USC in an ugly game with lots of mistakes on both sides but at the end we pull through mainly because the Lincoln Riley USC disaster really starts showing it's teeth. We then proceed to lose to Wisconsin and Cockeye at home in the same fashion we have been losing all season. Would you still consider the season a success even if Rhule doesn't make any changes to his staff because we finally made a bowl? Would he still have to clear out assistants for you to be satisfied? Would it not matter because we still look like shit even though we hit the mythical 6 win mark regardless of any assistant changes?
I never thought that 6 wins would really show much progress, it would still be a disappointing season. I need 7+ to think we are on the right track. But 6 is better than 5 and gets us extra practice and a bowl game so I'd prefer that to 5.

We have to AT LEAST win one more and make a bowl game. The fanbase would then at least be slightly happy. Hell, we haven’t been to one since 2016 and I believe even that year we snuck in at 5-7.
I think we actually made a bowl after the 5-7 season. Riley’s second year was pretty good and we went 9-3. We went into the Wisconsin game undefeated and ranked #7. Lost in overtime. Then collapsed vs Ohio State, which was probably the beginning of the end.

In hindsight, the hook on Riley was incredibly quick given all the shit product his successors have put out. But we were determined to bring home the guy we could make a comic book about.

It’s simply insane to think that not only was Riley the last coach to win 9 games, he was also last the coach to win more than 5. JFC.

You’re right. Our last bowl win was the 5-7 year however

If it wasn’t for the Ginger forcing Diaco on him and making him fire Banker while on the recruiting trail, who knows what would have been. Plus I’m sure the boosters were all fascinated with what Frost was doing at UCF and wanted him now give him going to Florida which was the reason for the quick hook.

Nebraska is going to have to have some kind of 2004 Boston Red Sox cathartic episode to return to relevancy.
Statistically this seems like this has to happen. The current run of shit we’re on, especially in close games, defies statistical logic.

We’re due for the fates to smile on us some year. And it will be glorious.

I remember people on RSS calling for us to fire Riley and hire Frost like 3 games into year 3 (after a 9 win second season) which was well before Frost went undefeated and the wheels fully fell off.

It was a Fait Accompli that Riley was gonna get fired and Frost hired that year - I don’t think Riley was going to ultimately succeed anyway but the fanfare and double standard around Frost was embarsssing - honestly that fake scenario where Frost is winning a national championship at the back of Tom Shatel’s book is the most embarrassing thing about the last 10+ years.

I wonder who all bought that book lol. Crazy to think about. Even tho i was in love with Frost back then, I still thought the book was in very poor taste, FTR
