Brother...you don't have to ask me twice. Love me some Drinkall. https://goarmywestpoint.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/matt-drinkall/1755

That being said...some trashing of Raiola in this thread. I think that's a mistake. I think the Nebraska OC job is attractive because of Raiola. He's a big time talent.

  • Zero receivers that can get open in space except for Barney who needs 20 lbs of muscle.
  • The offense has no identity.
  • They are playing a guard at LT.
  • Zero explosive run game.
  • The only explosive run plays they have a chance with are also to Barney, but there's a 98% chance that Banks or Neyor will either hold or block in the back on the play because they are the absolute worst perimeter blockers in the Big 10.
  • Fidone is inconsistent
  • Oh and by the way when Raiola does manage to move this team into field goal range...their kicking game is an absolute disaster.

This is the way....

Trying to remember the details exactly.

But in Flecks second year at Minny, they were struggling. After we housed them by 20 points, he immediately fired the DC, and the finished strong, and have been better than us since
Hey that's a hell of a pull! I remember that.

Good example in that Fleck was in no danger of being fired, he just recognized that the DC was a shit show so he fired him mid-season.

Very good example.

Also besides Raiola inability to throw a deep pass you also never see him try to fire a ball into a tight window where’s a play to be made. It feels like he only wants a touch pass but vs zone coverage

I disagree. Before things started to fall apart, DR was "throwing receivers open" into tight spaces, at least some.

DR reads the field well, or at least he was reading the field well. He has a severe case of the yips right now, has lost almost all confidence in our receivers getting open and to the right spots. Has lost confidence in his accuracy and decision making with now a good number of INT's in recent games. With no running game and our offense continually relying on the pass game to move the chains, and usually when we are behind the sticks on downs due to no running game, that puts a LOT of pressure on a true Frosh QB. Also, opposing DC's have got Satterfields offense complelely figured out - no innovation or good counters most of the time.

DR is fine, excellent really, most of the time. His confidence has been hammered these last 3 or 4 games (kind of started with that INT where he made a quick decision to throw a quick pass to a double covered WR where it was easily intercepted). Now he is hesitant and questioning everything, instead of just playing and slinging the rock after going through progressions to the right guy. No QB makes a perfect (or even good) throw every time. No QB makes the right decision all of the time. Just watched Mahomes play pretty poorly yesterday for instance. But DR is hampered by a good number of problems with the offense, scheme, WR play, etc right now. We sorely need some innovation and adjustments (and a semblance of a running game) to get things back on track for DR and for the entire offense.

Satt needs to not be calling plays. Don't even make it public, give it that duty to Thomas and see how it goes. But changing things up, innovation/changing things up and adjustments HAVE to be made, and it has to happen now.

I visited to the link, did not say much about his philosophy. Is he a run oriented or pass oriented coach? Anything you can share would be appreciated.

Satt is going to have to be forced to change. A rational OC would have already seen that we need more quick throws to alleviate the pressure. It ain’t happening. We don’t seem to pull guards or run trap plays - we stopped using the TE to trap block and that worked. Pretty pedestrian running game, or so it appears to me.

Limited view watching games on TV, but if these receivers are not running good routes, play somebody who is. Indiana ran specific plays for specific players. We seem to rely on check downs. That isn’t a bad thing, but we have to help a freshman quarterback and Satt isn’t doing it.

He’s a power spread guy. Lots of 11 and 12 personnel. Gap scheme. Everywhere he’s been. They’ve been very successful on O. He’s an up and comer in the coaching world IMO.

Small school offensive guy that has branched out and got into D1.
