I guess will see on Ravi. He just follows whatever Damon says anymore.

Instead of blaming Satt or the McGuire they pretty much scapegoat Raiola every week. Not saying Raiola has been great, but he is a true freshman being asked to do some pretty impossible things by his OC and lack of playmakers around him.
Gotcha.

That's too bad. I remember him from the Frost days. IIRC he was out on Frost from an early time and was pretty negative on NU FB until we finally fired him. But I could be mixing him up w a different radio guy.

Not saying coaches should never be asked tough questions, but fans mostly just want them for personal catharsis. Very little real insight would likely be gained from it.

There's rarely much real insight to be gained from sports pressers, period. Wish more people would understand that.

I have a very hard time believing Rhule would fire any assistants mid season.

I could see him do it. I mean he's already made a few last-minute coaching changes since he's been here. Like last year when Wager resigned and he promoted a special teams analyst with TE coaching experience on an interim basis. Surely we've got somebody on staff who could replace McGuire until the end of the season - couldn't be any worse, right?

Sat, Barthel, and McGuire have to go.
Nebraska is using 6.1milly of its 7 milly pool.
This would open up 1.9 milly — 2.7 milly to spend roughly
Also fire Foley — opens up 550k and 3.2 million total to spend

Dana Holgorsen - OC/IWR - give him 1.5 milly
Jamar Mozee - OWR - promote him and raise salary to 400k from 200k
RB/ST - Tim Horton for Air Force. Great running backs and great special teams coach
TE - really don’t give a fuck as long as they are 25 years old and have experience recruiting and coaching for 10+ years

there’s a world where Satt gets fired after OSU, but I’m not sure a mid season firing is the best thing for us.

Andy Ludwig (Utah OC) "stepped down", Oklahoma's OC, Southern Miss HC and East Carolina's HC were fired mid-season. So it can be done; some BIG OC and DC's have been fired mid-season the last few years.

Making this it's own thread because this is by far the harshest I've seen any local media go after the Rhule regime. You've got old school NEB media guys in Gary Sharp and Bill Doleman (not exactly hot take artists) basically saying Satterfield should be fired mid-season. Then saying at least you could demote Satt to TE coach and hand over playcalling duties to Glenn Thomas.

This is the first time I've seen any of our older media go after Rhule. If you listen to the first 5 min, Gary Sharp sounds like he wants to fight Rhule ("You can't lose like that and then say 'I didn't see it coming' - that can't happen").

I recommend watching the first 5-7 min of this if this type of thing is cathartic for you. My main point is that I think Rhule has started his new era here w the media at Nebraska where he starts to get questioned a bit more (Callahan, Bo, Riley & Frost all entered this at one point). Anyway, I found it interesting.

Thanks for the info, because I don't ever see or hear the Nebraska media anymore. In general, calling them "mediocre" would be a compliment, and I live out of state.

IMO, firing OC/DC midyear is usually a desperation move by the HC to keep his job. I am pretty sure Venables is done at OU after this year. Rhule could very well move on from Satt, but I don't think it's a midyear situation and is more likely to happen after the season.

Just wait until he has to face the tPB writers. Can he take the heat?
"Coach - our semi-professional lip readers informed us that it appears you said that you wanted fuck the referees mother, care to comment?"

"That is false. I said I wanted make the ref fuck her brother. Then we will send the tape into the B1G office. It's my idea to get some refs fired while we suck"

I wonder if a guy like Lincoln Riley, who isn't having the great success everyone expected out in USC, would have any interest in going to some hole in the wall like Norman, OK. I think he could really do well there.

Is satt gone after this weekend?

The reason Rhule would do it is, it's too risky to finish out the year like this. If you do this for another 5 games, you probably lose Barney, Fidone, might even lose Dylan. And you lose your other WR incoming recruits. I personally think Rhule has to show something on offense in the home stretch to (a) keep all those guys and (b) attract some game breaker WRs from the portal.
Yeah unfortunately we're wasting quite a bit of our "Raiola capital" at the moment... A few short weeks ago he was a potential magnet for big time WR recruits/transfers in the future. Who wouldn't want to come play with a 5* future NFL star in a high flying offense for the next 2-3 years?? But the longer our offense is stagnant and/or downright ugly, the more he just becomes some guy.

It doesn't look fun to play in our offense. Everything seems way too difficult, everything. I agree we're probably in danger of Raiola himself saying "well I gave it a shot but my real goal is the NFL and I owe it to myself to transfer into a system that showcases my abilities." We gotta shake things up. We can't survive OR attract talent when our offense is a bunch of long-developing downfield passes that usually result in 4 yard check downs, or worse.

I would love for us to find someone like Andy Kotelnicki. For those who don't know who he is, he was KU's offensive coordinator and left after last year to do the same for Penn State. His offense schemed guys getting open non stop. WR's like Grimes, Skinner, and Arnold aren't world beaters and weren't highly rated recruits, but they were constantly open, giving JD and Bean fairly easy reads and throws to make.

I agree that Rhule probably won't do it. 90% of the time it is done as a desperation move for a HC who is trying to save his job. Rhule's job is in zero danger.

This is a unique situation where you have a generational QB, a very involved dad (who happens to be an NU legend), your best young player (Barney) and a bunch of recruits all tied together. In other words, if offensive situation degenerates to the point where you lose Dylan -> you also lose Barney (they're best friends) -> then you also lose any recruit who was coming here to play w Dylan.

If this offensive shitshow continues I would think that Rhule would at the very least be on the phone w Dom saying what he plans on doing to rectify the situation, etc. I just don't see how in this era of portal transfers you'd have offensive people that would stick around to play in an offense that doesn't showcase anyone.

I don't think Satt will be fired. I do think someone else will be calling plays even if that is not publicized. The biggest threat to the program at the present moment is that the Raiolas become alienated by the play-calling.

My biggest fear atm is that person will be noted control freak Matt Rhule

Yikes...you're one of the most level headed posters on here. If YOU are advocating for firings, then the shit must really be hitting the fan. 😂

I'm trying to not be a reactionary fan on this topic... but I literally just do not see any other option for Rhule (if this 14 pts/gm thing continues).

One other angle on this is, Rhule keeps saying how he wants to run NU FB like an NFL team....well in the NFL, coordinators get shitcanned all the time. A poor performing OC or DC doesn't stick around very long in the NFL just because he's the HC's buddy.
