Nope, would absolutely stay if Raiola was returning for his third season to start. "Same remaining eligibility" isn't the issue.

Then what is? You think Lateef would be pissy about the prospect of backing up one guy for two more years but not pissy about backing up another guy for more two years?

Yes! I don't understand why this is so hard to figure out. If LaQueef were the backup all season and Raiola was coming back next year, it would be obvious that he would backup a 3-year starter.

Since he started 4 games and the guy he backed up is transfering he probably sees himself as having a serious shot at being the starter next season. Bringing in a guy that has obvious production and is a big name would tell him he isn't competing for the starting job. He would think that the coaching staff doesn't think he's good enough and probably look for a staff that does think he's good enough.

I'm saying all of this not caring if LaQueef transfered or not from a talent perspective. We need him for room depth. I've been on record here saying I don't think he'll ever be a serious contributor here.

Oooohhhh, you guys still think Raiola is gonna be ready for the NFL in a year?

For the love of god, if you can bring in a guy that's clearly better than what you have now, and the guy you have now doesn't like it, then you tell him enjoy the portal and don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out!

ISTG, I have no fucking idea what kinda brain worms have infected this board that some of you think that deliberately taking lesser guys is a good idea... 🤦‍♂️

I was not of the opinion that going after a lower guy was the move. I think I was extremely vocal that it was indeed the wrong move. I was just answering the question you posed earlier in the thread about why it was likely TJ would portal if they brought in a guaranteed starter.

Coaches would be going against their word of what they said when they recruited him.

Ohhhh, so you think Rhule made some sweet little promises to Lateef about his starting prospects, but he wouldn't make any sweet little promises to Minchey about his starting prospects because Lateef already has his heart and he'd never go back on his word, no matter what happened afterward?

And I repeat: if you can get someone better, YOU DON'T WORRY ABOUT WHAT THE FUCKING BACKUP THINKS.

This ain't Pop Warner league. If Lateef gets his feefees hurt because you brought in someone better than he is, oh well, you've got someone better than he is.

No, your top paragraph is not what I think.

FYI they have zero way of knowing if Minchey is better than Lateef.

Interesting conversations in this thread. Bottom line! If we don't improve our OL, RB and WR rooms none of this will matter.

I think Minchey ends up getting the nod, but man I am down on our offense as a whole. At this point I don't even know what our offensive identity is? Do you? Does anyone? We are recruiting to fill voids in a system that seems to be multidirectional. Not sure how you even do that. Seems to be a shot in the dark more than anything else!

I'm going to give Rhule the benefit of the doubt here, and let me rant for a second...

He wanted to go dual-threat, that's why we grabbed one in 2023 to run our offense, it just happened to be the wrong one or we were having him do things he was not capable of. Then all of a sudden a five star legacy wants to commit to you that you aren't saying no to, but he isn't dual threat at all, so you shift to that. Now we are trying to go back to more of a dual-threat situation. There was back and forth on what we were trying to be before we discuss the bad original OC hire. We are essentially going back in year 4 to what we originally wanted in year 1, but didn't do in year 2 and 3. It's really difficult to have an identity when you are changing what you want your signal-caller to be 3 out of 4 years.

Looking at the gold standard with Cignetti and Indiana, Kurtis Rourke and Fernando Mendoza all were pass first and could run when needed. Not dual-threat, but a threat enough, maybe. Now they are grabbing a guy that is just like Rourke from year 1 with nearly the same numbers, but did it in the Big12 not the MAC, so a better version of him. Meanwhile, we are flip flopping everywhere. And that's before you get to our third DC in 4 years.
