Also you have to wait and see how the HC does too: if Campbell goes 6-6 this year then you can't bring him here. If Aranda goes 6-6 you can't bring him here. We did this with Riley where you brought in a guy who's record had started declining and we saw how that worked.

Whoever Turd hires has to be coming here w some momentum or it's going to be hard to sell it to the fans.
I don't think you be a slave to the record in a given year. Good coaches have down seasons, it happens. You're looking for a guy who has the stuff you want and Aranda and Campbell could have it even if they went 6-6. Obviously it takes some of the "sex appeal" off them for the fans, but if you'd bring Aranda in at 8-4 this year, you bring him in at 6-6 if you believe he's the right guy. I don't think collecting more data points is a bad thing and maybe there is something this year that would be disqualifying for guys with relatively small sample sizes, but hiring is forward looking, imo

We hired Mike Riley.
Yeah and Eichorst tried selling his poor record based on not having the resources. But at the end of the day, a .500 coach is still a .500 coach even with all of the resources.

M
No what I’m saying is Turd said “hey if I can get MJ here would you want to retain him?” And Campbell said yes. Then Turd gave assurance to Mick that he’d be retained when Scott was fired.

I will never believe that Mick would have come here without some sort of assurance he’d be here more than one season.
Mick Dundee?

From what I heard, he wasn't being retained at LSU under new coach Brian Kelly. If that's the case he had nowhere to go.

Every fvcking year Campbell for every job.
“He’s waiting for notre dame”, yada yada.
Why dont we ever hear of him being a finalist for any job?

I’ve been sayin it for years, mrs Campbell is happy with no pressure Ames. She laughed out loud last time when asked about the Nebraska job. Ain’t happening.

Most national media have never understood Nebraska. Even when we were kicking the shit out of their darling Florida.
Isn't the important thing for talking through a coach search the coaching/CFB community's evaluation of Nebraska?

I mean if anyone who isn't good friends with a coach's spouse is asking about prospective employment opportunities, they're not going to get a serious response. She may like it in Ames and great for them if they're happy there. Hell I would be if I were them.

Not really imo. As with everything I'm sure there are a diversity of opinions in the coaching community about Nebraska. There isn't a single evaluation to find. And you can't get inside Urban Meyer's or Matt Campbell's head and find out what they think about NU.

This is what Dodd says about Campbell FWIW:

Matt Campbell, Cockeye State coach: Several sources have told CBS Sports that Campbell is interested in Nebraska. It's certainly more highly resourced than Cockeye State, especially with the Big 12 moving down in the pecking order with the forthcoming departures of Texas and Oklahoma. But Campbell has to get to a certain level this season to be in the mix. That means 6-6 or even 7-5 might not be good enough for Nebraska, which absolutely has to hit a home run this time around. Campbell (10-7 in his last 17 games) may have simply hit his ceiling at Cockeye State. Prior to this development, insiders were saying Campbell was interested in only two jobs: Ohio State and Notre Dame. Both are filled at the moment.
