The potential OL for that class before it all fell apart still makes me sick to my stomach.

Seems like I'm forgetting at least one more. Ricky Henry?
Not just OL. That class was setting up to be the all-time best at NU. We had a 5-star QB (Blaine Gabbert) and IIRC, a top 100 RB in Jonas Gray.

IIRC the only (highly rated) players that stuck through the coaching change were Steinkhuler and Will Compton (cue the Ekler tattoo story)

I don't know if anyone has ever done it but I would like to see a timeline of the ups and the eventual downs of that class.

Didn't he end up on the OL in college?

Yeah. Ended up a 1st round pick and played OT in the league for like 12 years.

He was only a first round NFL draft pick on the OL and played until like 2023?
I'm a dumbass
shocked no way GIF

I don't have a timeline for you, but at one time all of these guys were committed to Nebraska for the 2008 signing class:
StarsNamePos.Nat'lPos.State
5Baker SteinkuhlerOT821 Nebraska
5Blaine GabbertQB1411 Missouri
4Trevor RobinsonOG3712 Nebraska
4Jonas GrayRB7244 Michigan
4Bryce GivensOT98121 Colorado
4Will ComptonLB313344 Missouri
4David WhitmoreCB3202044 Texas
4Sean FisherLB333383 Nebraska
4Dan HochOG400311 Cockeye
3Riley ReiffOT494411 S.Dakota
3DJ WoodsWR-5721 Ohio

That's five top 100 players, including two top 100 OTs and four 5/4-star OL (and that doesn't inlude future first-rounder Reiff!). We had the top-ranked player from every border state except Kansas (well, and Wyoming who didn't produce any rated players)

Of the above, only Steinkuhler, Compton, Fisher and Whitmore stuck with NU as the 2007 season fell apart leading to the firing of Bill Callahan.
Some other committed players who stuck:
3-star WR Cam Meredith (who ended up playing DE/emergency DT for us), 3-star TE Kyler Reed, JUCO OG Ricky Henry

Some players of note the Bo Pelini staff was able to add to the class after his hire:
4-star DE Josh Williams
3-star CB Alfonzo Dennard
3-star TE Ben Cotton
3-star S PJ Smith
3-star LB Alonzo Whaley
3-star DB's Steven and Courtney Osborne
3-star LB Micah Kreikemeier 😉
JUCO WR Brandon Kinne

In all, not a bad class for a transition class. Ended up ranked No. 30 nationally by Rivals.

Correct me if I'm wrong please but didn't Osborne do some of the recruitment before Bo got here from LSU? I was thinking T.O. was the one that brought in Kreikemeier?
Edit: not that I'm sticking up for Bo!

Yes, that's exactly what happened. Kreikemeier was kind of a symbolic offer to show NU still cared about in-state players after the feeling that Callahan didn't.
