Jordan Addison - Paging Whipple

For the record I was never in the camp of paying players. My reasons were very get off my lawn like, but this is proof on why I never liked the idea. This just isn’t healthy
And this isn’t even NIL. By definition this is pay for play. The horse is 2500 miles out of the barn at this point and he’s never going back in.

I have a hard time understanding why any Husker fan wouldn’t be feeling like NIL is the greatest thing ever. With all of the recruiting disadvantages we have, we finally have an angle that can leverage our support to compete with the big boys.
Except the big boys have much more $$$ than we can dream of. We may have a rabid fanbase but not a fanbase with as much financial resources as USC, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, etc.

We have advantages with like sized schools but not with the power players.

Cause they have boosters paying cash and we have Gerrod L.

If we were organized and competent, sure. But everyone know we are the opposite.

Sounds like we might be outbidding for Mathis?

When we're playing the game of catching the Indiana and Purdue's of the world, I'll bitch about not having the money to catch Ohio State later

It really isn’t. The rich will always win out. And it’s on the NCAA for letting it get to this.
So really it’s no different then?

To me, NIL is like many other controversial topics in the public discourse. The situations like Addison and the bball player from Miami are the ones that get the majority of the coverage, but they’re the outliers/aberrations in the big picture. By and large the athletes benefiting from it aren’t making crazy money and aren’t using them as bargaining chips in transfer negotiations. It needs some guardrails put in by someone, but overall NIL is still an absolute net positive IMO.

If we are a top 10-15 NIL school with how bad we are think what will happen if we start winning some games? There will be more money in play. NIL can be an advantage for Nebraska in the future.

Yea I don’t get it with the rich will win out. The rich have always won out. I think the transfer rule has screwed up things more than anything. Coaches shouldn’t have to spend the whole year recruiting their own roster.
