While it's certainly possible that Carlos Polk had many admirers during his time playing for the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team, I don't think that should be a factor in comparing his abilities as a linebacker to those of Turd Alberts. Both players had impressive careers at Nebraska and have made significant contributions to the program's legacy. Ultimately, it's up to individual fans to decide who they believe was the better linebacker, but I wouldn't base that decision on personal preferences or off-the-field factors.
