Illinois Game Week Thread

It still kind of amazes me guys like Blaise can't get it together considering they're grown men. Frost poisoned this program deeply. This program needs some Deion treatment.
Blaise Gunnerson? He is a starter. Kind of an odd person to single out. He has also been injured basically every year except this year when he is now starting.

I think you have already mentioned it, but I think we are going to see more of the young guys as we get into the second half of the season.
Also, I think as the season has played out, the coaches are finding out that some of the older guys don't have the mindset that they are looking for.
Plus, they need to get as much playing time as possible for next year, as we have discussed before I think a lot of the older guys (Covid Juniors) will be moving on after this year.
Rhule talked about his time at temple on bussin with the boys & he does seem to sacrifice immediate success to build for the future. Basically played all the young guys which got em a conference title.

I don’t remember which Husker writer was talking about Rhule possibly holding some cards back against Michigan & maybe it’s not a bad idea to go all-in on the upcoming stretch vs trying to stand toe to toe with Michigan & have the damage carry over into the next 3 games. Insert new pieces now & it’s a good chance to build confidence & inject some new energy into the locker room.

Glad Rhule said what we all know about quitting. It will be interesting to see if he can do anything about it.

Our players are used to losing, they expect to lose. This has been going on years now - it is the mental makeup of the program.

I do believe Rhule is challenging players to not accept losing, they need to expect to win. If you expect to lose, you will lose. If you expect to win, you will win most of your games. And the ones you don't win, you will be beyond pissed about not winning.

This is all easy to say and talk about on a football message board. It is not so easy to change a losing mindset in a program that has learned to expect to lose. It will take time, unfortunately, to change the mindset and expectations our players and team has.

Has anyone used ChatGPT 4 new Code Interpreter plugin? It's absolutely wild. I just gave it a data file of the Sports-Reference game results with the associated team's per game metrics and asked it to give me the probability of Nebraska winning against Illinois without any additional suggestions.

The answer:

"Nebraska's win probability against Illinois is: 34.0783%"

I threw the code it produced in a colab notebook - it's pretty clever, it created an ELO model and then used an logistic regression to predict the probability given Points Scored/Given Up, Turnovers Gained/Lost, and ELO difference. Not quite an accurate way...and some of the Top 25 ELO is pretty suspect...but pretty cool, imo.

I've only used the free version and apparently it has the python skills of a kindergartener.
Maybe I should ante up.
