Inside Info Illinois Book Report

Illinois may have lost their best WR to injury.

They really wont have shit at WR without him

The TEs are the ones with the most returning production. Isaiah Williams switching full time to WR is the one to raise your eyebrows. But honestly, we don’t have to do anything other than play 10 dudes in an elevator to stop their offense. There’s not gonna be any guesswork here.

Im interested in their defensive front and their secondary.

Their DC was at Mizzou last year and he’s a 4-2-5 guy. Bielema is a 3-4 guy. They’ve been quoted as saying they’ll be “blending” their scheme to make it their own.

Their DC likes to play with 3 safeties and did a lot at Mizzou. Illinois doesn’t have 3 safeties with any experience.

Huskers SHOULD roll. SHOULD be able to line up and beat them because we are better football players than they are. Would be nice to win this one 34-10.
And if they don’t, you’ll still be here fluffin’

I actually agree, but I have a bit of Bo v Bert PTSD keeping me two TDs from you. 34-24 good guys.

The common misconception about Bert is that he was the mastermind behind all of the beatings we took at WiscyDicks’s hand during his time there. Paul Chryst was his OC the full time there and without PC Bert has been pretty shitty.

That being said, we should beat this Illinois team handily and I’m fine with being held to that statement. If we can’t line up and donkey punch this team or if it looks like last year’s Buttgers game there will be cause for concern and the people who bet the unders on our win total will likely be in the money.

Now now, stop acting like quality coordinators matter...

The absolutely bizarre thing to me is that Bert went out and hired a staff that would have given Husker fans a chub that are constantly hammering home the point about “quality P5 experienced guys with track records” while at Arkansas and he was still really shitty.

This is 100% a game that’s inexcusable for us to lose. I have no problem going as far to say as this could be the most damning loss in the Frost era if we don’t win it.

It would be both objectively unforgivable, yet unsurprising. Which is THE fucking problem.

Sorry, letting off some pre-season angst.

Youre good dude. The thing that’s been frustrating since like January is that we all have so many extremely fair questions to ask about Nebraska football and none of them were going to get answers to those questions until literally THIS Saturday.

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that we can handle some typical first game mistakes that get made. We can all identify those and objectively look past a few of those.

There needs to be a clear difference in the level of play from a talent perspective, knowledge of schemes, strength and conditioning, and overall experience and leadership standpoint if we are going to take the steps we all want us to take. In my opinion, answers to at least 3 of those questions will be answered extremely early. Maybe as early as halftime. Experience and leadership may have to wait until we get punched in the mouth for the first time. That could happen on Saturday. But I’m not sure it will.

I will say Arkansas is in one of the toughest divisions in all of college football and Bert did finish with a better win percentage then what Frost currently has at Nebraska.

2013, 14, 16 & 17 that division had 2 national champions and 2 runner ups, plus half the division was always ranked in the top 25.

Definitely not easy for anyone to win so I’m not as hard as others at his time at Arkansas.

The thing that’s frustrating, but maybe an indirect relief, is that it seems only negatives can come from this Saturday. We’ve lost to Illinois , but we still aren’t them and a loss still is terrible and a win means very little.

There’s a real strange air to things right now that feels like a divergence between outcome and method. It’s a total mindfuck because outcomes have been so poor, yet there’s a clear line between method and outcome, and still yet, there are these feels of we’re so close AND we’re so far away.

He also spent two years under Bill Belicheck after leaving Arkansas

I appreciate the point as conventional wisdom should shout that “win and move onto Fordham” is success on Saturday. While I could totally see that train of thought and we’ll likely see almost all Husker fans that aren’t on message boards subscribe to that school of thought, I’m of the opinion that we SHOULD roll in this game and anything that doesn’t look pretty decisive in our favor may mean that we wasted a lot of our time this winter, spring, summer, and fall.

It’s simply not acceptable to lose or look like a joke again against this Illinois team that might have only 3 players that could start at any other Big Ten school with coaches in their first year there and first years with each other as a staff.
