Welcome to The Platinum Board. We are a Nebraska Husker news source and fan community.
Sign Up Now!1 & 3 are the same choice as far as I am concerned. There is no reason to keep him unless the school only cares about the football program. What would you do if you were Troy Dannen?
I think you can explain away those first 3 years with excuses/explanations like "COVID" and "FH re-assimilating to CBB" and "FH had to learn NIL era" etc....His record here is crazy, for some reason I thought he had one other season where he finished decent in conference (besides last year where we made the tourney). HIs first two years were disgusting. Started to show some progress year 3-5, but then completely faltered end of this year to make people forget that.
He needs to probably finish top half of the league next year to be back. He's had 6 years and only one finish better than 11th, he's had ample time.
They are both "retain"....but I was attempting to separate the confidence votes from the 'actually he sucks but Nebrasketball' votes.1 & 3 are the same choice as far as I am concerned. There is no reason to keep him unless the school only cares about the football program.
He has done nothing to support a conclusion he deserves to be back.
They won't fire him.
Dannen needs to leverage this end of season disaster into reducing the buyout. Maybe then we can afford to can him. There's nfw we can fire him right now.Is his buyout truly 18M? If so, then I don't see how you can afford that, particularly with the Memorial renovations, rev-share on deck.
It would be nice to see if he would take a cut in his salary and have it flow to NIL and/or rev-share.
Truly is amazing it's even being discussed with a .311 conference winning percentage. But it's not like it's truly gotten better. They are both "retain"....but I was attempting to separate the confidence votes from the 'actually he sucks but Nebrasketball' votes.
I think Hoiberg would have been fired by now from probably 95% of P4 schools. I'm not sure how many P4 programs bring a guy with a conference winning percentage of 0.311 back for a 7th year.
I thought we should have fired him and got Pitino when he was on the market. How can you say we are turning into Cockeye with Fran though? He has a better program than us.I’m pretty sure I’m one of the few on this board that has repeatedly said we should move on and people constantly think it’s crazy. It blows my mind that we pack PBA on a regular basis and after 6 years most fans think this is what we deserve. We are turning into to Cockeye with Fran. I get the program has never been good but if we don’t want to try to improve than just get rid of it.
I think the yr 7 is deciding year.Truly is amazing it's even being discussed with a .311 conference winning percentage. But it's not like it's truly gotten better.
Take out the first year, I never hold the first year against a coach, then it's .354, still awful.
But then Matt A was suppose to be the bad egg, so don't count the first 2 years, .400, still pretty bad.
Maybe just count the last 3, that's when folks say that Hoiberg figured out his formula to win in the B1G, .467, still a losing conference record.
Even the last two seasons he's 2 games under .500 at .475.
Which isn't really surprising when he's had a losing conference record 5 out of 6 seasons.
Then again we were on the edge of making the NCAA tournament, probably 2 games short in back to back years.
I think the bottom line is Hoiberg just isn't doing a good job and it really isn't that hard for a power conference team to make the NCAA tournament. They take the top 40-45 teams, you don't really have to be that good to be a top 45 team.
