Nebraskas tried for big fish since Osborne left and has came up empty. Nebraskas not a highly desirable place for successful head coaches
Only really tried for big fish once and come up somewhat empty - Callahan hire. We got Frost and he was a big fish. All the other times we went with well-known smaller fish (Pelini, Solich)

In the past 20 years:

NU has had one Top 15 finish
KSU has had four Top 15 finishes

NU has had 0 conference titles
KSU has had 2 conference titles

NU has had 9 losing seasons (7 of the last 8)
KSU has had 7 losing seasons

I'm done looking down on any other programs, or thinking we're still some jewel of college football. Yeah we have zillions of dollars, that can offset a lot, but we're still sitting in the freaking gutter. There's a decent chance that despite all the money sitting here coaches still just think of NU as a dead end in the modern world.

The University and many NU Fans seem to have trouble looking forward IMO and always end up looking backwards. A place like KSU isn't tied to Bill Snyder and the way he did things...otherwise they would have hired his son as the next HC. NU does the opposite...NU thinks that the "NU Way" is the only way.

NU doesn't look at what it takes to win like at other programs, they focus on the past and what is "familiar" to them.

Trying to do what used to work and not looking forward as to what will work is why NU has been shitty for over 20 years.

This is a fitting quote from a Dirk column:

Nebraska fans can take pride in the social-media hype videos that generate millions of page views. They can boast of pep rallies halfway around the world. But it’s all fancy wrapping paper for an empty box. The program is hollow. And has been now for a decade.

Always laughed at everyone hating Dirk during the Frost years and him evaluating the program better than 80% of Nebraska Fans.He keeps it real in most of his articles. Does he write some fluff click bait pieces, sure. What newspaper writer doesn’t to keep the boss happy? Everyone keeps saying Nebraska has shut up money but it ain’t being spent on anything but visual fluff buildings that everyone else has now days.

Who would you put in that category?
Monken.

And yes, I think there's a legit chance Leipold could be just as bad as Scott here.

He won't have his OC here. His defenses are always going to be bad.

And he's going to get off to a rough start based on the current roster.

And the guy can't recruit.

I think LL or Monkey Tits would be average Solich level, personally.

NU was always going to have to overpay for a big time coach...unfortunately, I don't think NU ever will. They will keep rolling dice and hoping.
